I came to this site because I know if anyone knows about this stuff it's you guys.
This setup is going in my Lifesize R2D2 droid and the pounding and heat will be
pretty rough sometimes.
Don't nail me to hard fellows " I'm not a robot freak" atleast that's what I keep telling myself.
I just need some help from someone with experience in this area and this will complete my $7000.00 project.
Thanks

consider using a small and low power mb with whatever drive you determine fits your need.

I like this MB: http://store.mp3car.com/Intel_D201GL..._p/mtb-054.htm

because the power use is low and the size is small 6.75 x 6.75 inches footprint.
Your space considerations may lead you to flash storage but cost may lead you to used laptop drive.

Maybe an older used laptop will fit your need.

Another consideration is power source, in a car with the engine running a 12 volt DC to DC solution works... that may work for you as well, depends on power consumption and projected run time along with your battery size.

Many of us will be happy to offer opinions on your project but you will need to make your own choices.

That's the board I picked.
I have been looking at the new Intel D945GCLF.
Power consumption is a big concern.
I'll have 2 batts configured in 24v. and 2 for 12v.
The only program besides Xp it will need to run will be my
Visual C# code.
Hopefully it does'nt kill the batts to quick.

Why am I not getting emails from Mp3Car..... ARGGGHHHHHHHHHH.

Well like Truckin said, the findings cant be denied, but doesnt SSD have slower read and write rates?

ctx32...... Best thing to do is research and research alot. Dont jump into anything with out researching it first. I decided to jump into my install with no research and have wasted almost $2,000.00 on things that did not fit my build. I have since redone my build which cost me about $4,000.00 with top grade stuff, but my install is also alot more massive then most (thats why I drive a SUV), so in all ive spent about $6,000.00 dollars and you just dont know how bad I wish i could jump in a time machine and get the $2,000.00 back.

Today I left my PC on for almost 1 hour without the car running and my batteries were fine, I wouldnt recommend doing so, because in the end the battery will have to be replaced alot faster. Only reason I did it was because gas is so expensive and my car is a pig with gas. Once again it all depends on set up. If your system has a very small power consumption foot print, then your batteries will be able to run the PC longer.

I wound up buying the D945GCLF.
Hopefully it was the correct choice for my setup.
The power supply will be next, The only thing I hate is I need a supply for 12v.
and 1 for Ac.
I guess I'll have to buy 2 supplies?
For the 12v. I was thinking of this M2-ATX 160W Intelligent DC-DC PSU.
I won't have much to run off this supply, Just the board and a Dvd.
I don't guess this supply will contribute to draining the batts.
