Decided not to buy it from there as they don't actually have them in stock, it will be in stockat some point next week/ later this week. Waiting for it to come in stock everywhere and see how the price looks then, as I'm not in that much of a rush for it really

I was doing some research on this board before I even saw this thread so, nice any timely!

I'm clear on hooking up power to the 20-Pin connector but, yeah, what's up with the additional 4-Pin DC connector? Is this something you can use instead of the 20-Pin connector? You have to hook things up to in addtion to the 20-Pin connector?

I'm switching from an AOpen board, which only requires +12V and Gnd to this so, I know I'm changing power supplies. I just want to make sure I've got everything I need when I order.

EDIT -

Found my answer in the technical documentation. For those that care, here's the answer:

The board has power supply connectors:

• Main power – a 2 x 12 connector. This connector is compatible with 2 x 10
connectors previously used on Intel Desktop boards. The board supports the use
of ATX12V power supplies with either 2 x 10 or 2 x 12 main power cables. When
using a power supply with a 2 x 10 main power cable, attach that cable on the
rightmost pins of the main power connector, leaving pins 11, 12, 23, and 24
unconnected.
• Processor core power – a 2 x 2 connector. This connector provides power
directly to the processor voltage regulator and must always be used. Failure to do
so will prevent the board from booting.

Also, mp3car.com has a couple of power supplies that will give you the ATX 20-Pin power as well as the 4-Pin DC power.

Mp3Car DSATX 220 Watt Automotive Power Supply

M4-ATX 250W Intelligent DC-DC PSU

I'm looking at the M4, just because it's smaller. Now I'm in the process of searching for a case that will house both the Mini-ITX board and the PS (right now I have an external PS and I'd love to get it all in the case, if that's possible).

Just ordered mine from CostCentral

$86.00

Provantage has it listed for $87.90. Price was the same after shipping.

My guess is they use the same warehouse for distribution because they show the same quantities.

---

So the race is on..... will I get the monitor install wrapped up before the MOBO gets here?

I still need to settle on a power supply too.

Has anybody else noticed the size of the board? seems they are micro atx not mini itx.

Form Factor: µATX
Dimensions: 24.38cm Width x 24.38cm Depth
9.6" Width x 9.6" Depth

Size is mini-itx, same as d201gly2. The northbridge HSF is only 30mm high off the board (cf D945GCLF at 45mm) as is the passive CPU heatsink. That is slightly lower than your avergae ram, and so the low height cases are good to go. The procase cs 3688 im using fits fine and its only 65mm high.

http://www.procase.co.nz/pc/cs3688.htm

The PSU is only 60W though and designed for epia. Might work at a pinch if you have little other 5V needs. Would be good if intels documentation actually specified the motherboards power draw per rail, rather than the vague "supply requirements" figures they use. I just looked at the docs for d201gly2 and it says

3.3V min 2A , max 4.4
5v 1.8a, 17.9A!!
12V 2.2A, 5.15A (this was the issue with 60W Dc-DC boards)

Whereas D945GCLF2 says:

3.3V 0.5A
5V 7.75A
12 0.8A

None of which makes any sense to me. But my test showed that even if it was drawing ALL 5V it was using 4Amps on the 5V rail at idle. And whats the point of the 12V power conenctor if the board isnt really using any significant 12V power. Thats atom for you i guess.

Surely those specs should have a baseline MoB use figure and one that allows for fans, USB etc.

Pic of the D945GCLF2 in a CS-3688 case.

Highslide JS

The drive tray sits right over the ram, and HSFs, with about 5mm to clear.

The supplier is saying the 60W Dc-dc board in this chasis is adequate, shrug.

What we need to do I guess is measure the Dc draw an both 5v and 12 rails, seperately.

Note that the molex drive conector supplied with this board is shortish, about 100mm + 100mm to the smaller 5V connector. A sata adapter/extention cures that.

Could someone else confirm deny these findings 7.75A on the 5v rail means the M3 is outo the window (max 6A) if its 4 then just could get away with it.
looks like the M4 is going to have to be used
