Do you have any real-world carpc type specs, like boot time or driving direction calculation in navigation software? Does the dual core really help? Do they have the same bios (for POST time)?

Post time- I'll be conservative and say 3 seconds.

With 2 gig of ram, 200 gig HD (I think it may be 7200 RPM) TinyXP is up and I have a wireless connection established in about 40 seconds.

I don't have any other software on it yet other than firefox and roadrunner.

I was concerned about the amount of RAM I went with and resume times. I'll be using my alarm disarm to start the computer and with 3 boys that can't get loaded in under a minuet, I don't think I have anything to worry about.

Ive been thinking about the power issue some more. So that we can choose PSUs well, we need to know the MoBs actual min-max draw per rail.

ie:

MoB 5V min-max draw
MoB 12V min-max draw

excluding usb, excluding drives, just the motherboards own draw, with all on board devices enabled, and one known fan. That way we can each add on x+y Watts for various peripherals with known power characteristics.

In order to do this i need two things:

1. A clampmeter (reasonably accurate DC hall effect) to measure the 3.3, 5v and 12 rails seperately. Eg: see Mike Chins

2. Recommendations about an application to run to create the "MAX" power draw state. Im thinking CPU at 100% and something graphics intensive to tax the north bridge. Suggestions?

3.3V rail < 300mA
5V rail = 2.8A (mainly the 945 Chipser)
12V rail < 200mA
-12V rail = 0.05A

I've been researching my TV out issue all night (slow night at work) and have found other reports of issues with the GMA 950 and its S-video output not recognizing a TV when a composite video converter is used.

Provided I can find an s-Video cable when I get home, I'll try plugging it in to a TV using a straight s-video connection and see how that goes.

seninha - I did find that the GMA 950 is capable of displaying video on the secondary monitor so it should work for your setup (and mine) provided we can figure out how to get that second display working.

If anyone has any insight on the pin output for the S-video on the board, this would be helpful.

Can ayone with the board check out how many pins they are in the s video port. my additional screen just has RCA plugs. my converter uses a 4 pin svideo

following txpazz search i found out that the 950 uses a 7 pin outut which is why alot of conveters dont work.

I don't know what the problem with the first adapter i was using was, but while searching Frys for a 7 pin adapter (with no luck) I grabbed another 4 pin one figuring I would end up butchering it to make something work.

I plugged it in and it worked fine.

The only option is to clone the desktop which is fine for me and video plays on both screens.

I'll play with it more tomorrow. I've had an hour and a half of sleep in the past 44 hours.... I'm off to bed.

7-pin simply means S-video + composite in one connector.

I'm sold on this board. Just ordered one for my new CarPC! I'll use my existing M2-ATX with it.

I just got this board today and its not bad, resume from hibernation is about
20 sec, and with the CoreAVC codec installed it plays 1080P .mkv files
just fine.

But my exsisting M2-ATX power supply wont work with out an adapter
like this one.

Just received this.

Next day delivery from Germany with the cheapest shipping option, nice one CarTFT! (But fix the damn website please)

Paid a bit more than I otherwise would have buying from the UK, due to higher German VAT and shipping, but I don't want to wait no more.

Installing WHS on it as we speak, can't wait!
(Yea this is to be used on my home server, not the car PC.)

TinyXP wasn't working for me (locked up after playing one MP3) so I did a full install of XP Pro 64.

New boot time with nothing but drivers installed 55 seconds, 10 seconds more than it was with TinyXP. I think it's a worthy tradeoff. I may try installing XP 32 to see how it compares.
