Intel D945GCLF2 Dual-Core Atom - Page 9

I can't seem to find any review that directly compares atom dual core performance to core2duo mobile.

I realize atom was built from the ground up for efficiency and economy, but do 45nm processing, and 4 virtual cores make up its cheaper architecture and 50% less cache?

I have the T5500 Core2Duo Mobile processor now (1.66Ghz 2MB cache). Would I be taking a huge step backward by going to a Atom-Dual Core?

On a separate note, has anyone seen a fanless setup yet?

just checking, but you are not using any of those cases in a car right?

and procase have a new psu on the slowboat from china, its a 150W one that will fit in the morex cases

But, watch out for the PSU. For the record the DC-DC baord in this case is now officially dead after 1 week of use, and the DC-Dc board RMAed.

Which is rated at 8 amps on 5V rail. The 5v power transistors on the Dc-DC baord in the Noah case are much bigger.

The atom board has been moved to a Noah case.

Which is rated at 7A on 5v. But the Noah case is certainly roomier to work in with better airflow and a pretty quiet system fan included.

The message is still: this board had big 5V needs, choose your PSUs carefully.

Woofnstuff: Yes and no. Campervan. But it runs off a 24v to 12v switching regulator (not 13.8v). This gives it the ability to survive engine cranks and filters out the electrical noise.

Zoltan: think youll find a goodly step down in speed, as diff. applications intended. Re fanless, that will depend on finding a suitable replacement HSF for the MCH, and using a fairly roomy and well ventilated case. When i finally got everything squeezed into the small case above, it felt exactly like a 25W light bulb would if you stuck it inside a small black metal case, even with pretty fair mm2 vent penetrations. Inside these small cases theres only 5mm between the CPU HSF, MCH HSF, RAM and the drive tray, and not a lot of convection.

Thanks. I suspected as much but couldn't find any side by side specs.

I know what you mean about the small cases. Right now I pipe A/C air from the vents into my case, but in the winter (with heat running) it over heats faster. I've got to figure out a way to bring in outside air in the winter and A/C air in the summer. Preferably without piping in lethal doses of CO.

Anyway, that's a different subject for a different thread.

Thanks for the info on the Atom Dual Core. I'm going to stick with my Core2Duo mobile even though I'm not crazy about the Itox mobo it's on.

I have a M2-ATX that I plan to use with this board. That as 8A on all 3 rails I believe. Will the M2 fit in the boxes that you listed above? How do they compare with Voom cases? Are there places to mount small case fans to ensure airflow? I don't care about a CD drive or included PSU. Just adequate space for MB, HDD, PSU, and some airflow.

I just got this board today and it seems great! With a fresh XP SP3 install with 1GB of ram I can get it to boot in about 33 seconds (icons on desktop). I tweaked the boot up by removing services, fonts, theme, etc and I got it down to about 30 seconds. Hibernation takes about 10 seconds and then resuming in about 20 seconds.

I noticed a problem with the SATA aswell. I am running two SATA devices, an 80GB drive and a DVD burner. Everything seems fine in windows but when using Acronis to image the drive, it kept freezing when scanning the partition. After reading about wywywywy's problem with the SATA I unplugged the DVD burner and it worked fine. I didn't try changing the SATA mode because everything seems fine in windows.

Someone was asking about sound on D945GCLF

When I first got it it was connected to 2 channel amplifier and everything worked well.
Then i decided to use 4-channel capability and configured appropriately in the software. Now line-in on the back of the board should be connected to rear speakers. When I restarted CPC I heard strong noise coming from rear speakers which lasted until PC booted (probably until Audio driver was loaded). Also, when driving later I noticed very silent but still noticeable whining noise that did not exist before.
I spent few hours researching noise/whining related posts and then even more hours trying out some possible solutions like rerouting wires, grounding CPC chassis, moving grounding point to what seemed to be a better location - nothing helped.
I guess there is something wrong with this blue input/output jack that is used as rear output in 4-channel mode. It produces noise till the driver is loaded like if "line-in" is the default mode and is switched to rear spk output mode only when driver is loaded (same noise reproduced when switching to 2-channel mode with rear speakers connected to line-in jack).
If anyone knows a solution, I'd be glad to hear about it. Meanwhile, I just reverted back to using 2-channel mode and connected rear and front speakers to the amp to same jack from CPC (regular "green" spk output).

No complaints about other components, very nice mb wrt performance.

Passive one is for the Atom processor.
Active one is for the 945 chipset.

Have you tried using 6 channel sound, like with a dedicated subwoofer channel?

I have a D945GCLF2 but I haven't hooked it up to anything yet. Damn life distractions.
