USB->Serial adapter in Holux GPS receiver

I'm using a Holux M-215U GPS receiver. It is connected with USB, but the device manager reveals there's a usb->serial adapter inside.

So, my problem.. It varies whether the GPS gets loaded after each restart or suspend. Every now and then (quite often if suspending) the COM-port does not appear in my device manager, and i'll have to unplug/replug it or restart.
Any clues on how to solve this problem? I'm using windows now btw, but I had the exact same issue in linux.
Is there a way to virtually unplug and replug it?

If not, I was hoping somebody could recommend me a USB GPS device which actuall works - and copes with suspend! And maybe one with >1Hz update rate.

Cheers!

Is it plugged into a USB hub or directly to the motherboard?
If it's plugged into a USB hub, try it connected to a port on the motherboard, using an extension if you need.

TELL MP3CAR YOU WANT A LINK TO THE FAQ IN A MORE OBVIOUS, NOTICABLE LOCATION HERE.
