Ive got a digital (TDMA) cellphone, and i was thinking, that it should be possible to connect through the phones headset jack into the line in on the modem. Either it would go into the line in, or the internal mic/speaker connector.

anyone think this might work? ive already got the modem and phone, so it would only be a few dollars worth of parts to hook it up, intead of lots of money for a new phone. And, if i get a new phone, it would be GSM, which would mean id have to pay per data downloaded, intead of time connected.

What you are suggesting is highly impractical. The only way I can think it would work would be by connecting the earpiece connector to the mic and headphone jack on a sound card. Then with a specialized modem emulator you might be able to get 300 baud connects.

Alright thanks, i didnt really know if it would work, but i figured it might, and it would only cost a bit for the wires/connectors, and its a lot cheaper then buying a new phone.

After it was all said and done, it would still probably cheaper and definately more cost-efficient to get a new phone.

The main reason i dont want to get a new phone, is because with my current one, for internet, i would pay per minute for airtime, but if i bought a new GSM phone, i would have to pay per KB. For 1.5MB of transfer per month, it would cost $20. I could get a new phone that is TDMA, but GSM is the new technology, and TDMA is going to be phased out sooner or later, so i dont want to buy a new phone that is TDMA. (although im looking for a used one to buy for cheap.)

I don't know if this applies, but I have a Samsung T300 and it connects to my computer through the serial port. I dial Verizon's dialup number (they give you dialup internet for free with their cell phone service) and my T300 acts like a regular modem. It works perfectly. It's kinda slow at 14400 but it works still. It just takes away from your normal minutes. So if you have unlimited weekends, you can use it the whole weekend. Works great.
