Damnit my hard drive crashed again :(

This is the 3rd hard drive in my mp3 car to go dead. I guess its cause I drive a Honda S2000 (sports car with very rough suspension). Anyway mp3 computer didn't play music like normal. Hooked up a monitor. I run linux and it boots the kernel and then when it gets to mounting hda1 it prints "hda DriveSeek Interrupt Error" or something like that and then kernel panics. Basically it has some bad sectors on the partition table or something I think Oh well time to find another hard drive from somewhere.

have you tried any laptop drives? I'd look into getting those. Also there are some hard drives, they are a bit more expensive but they are built to take a lot of shock.

It's doubtfull that it's the car. My RX-7 has a much stiffer suspension, and I can almost guarantee that I drive it much harder then you do your S2000. Maybe....

Anyway, the whole point is that it looks like you need to switch HD brands, or remove any HD suspension system you may have. Also, switching to a laptop drive is never a bad idea...

Hey, I would really like to add some useful input... but its really impossible without a more complete description of what your setup is... (s2000 cool car btw )

Saying "my hard drive crashes, whats wrong?" is kind of going to a doctor and saying "I have a pain in my torso, whats wrong?"

It could be a whole heck of a lot of things, and rather then play what could be a very long game of Q & A, if you could list your *entire* setup, complete with a description of how its installed, someone here might spot your problem.

- it could be a bad hard drive
- it could be your ide cord is gettingpulled out
- it could be the drive is not sufficiently buffered from shock, or not installed securely
- It could be a crappy psu, that is allowing unrestricted voltage to go to the hard drive.
- it could be that the drive is installed in an area with too much heat, and its overheating.

Or it could be that he's just using very old hd's

I ran a wd caviar 307AA 30.7gb drive for 2 years. Then I upgraded to a maxtor 60gb diamondmax drive. After a few cold days the maxtor died. The system would boot really slow then stop. If I let the system run the drive would warm up and work correctly. Eventually some files got corrupted and windows XP would not start. I reinstalled windows 3 or 4 times only to have files get corrupted again the next cold day before I gave up on the drive. I put the wd drive back in with no problems, cold days and all. I tried the maxtor drive in a desktop and it dosent work as a boot drive anymore. It will however let me store data on it.
