Size: Good
IDE only: Bad
Not fanless: Bad
Only 1.0GHz Eden: Bad, their just too slow. They need to put their 1.6Ghz Nano Cpu in it like they did with the VB8001 Mini-ITX board.
In fact the VB8001 is the only board that uses the much faster Nano. I don't understand what their waiting for maybe the dual core's since Intel has allready released their dual core Atom's. Their getting blown out of the water by the Atom's.

I have to agree, the board looks good, but doesn't seam fast enough. The technology is there to make it faster. This will require some serious system fine tuning to get it to run well. It also sounds like it's going to be around $200 with all the goodies they have included. I'm confused by the FM transmitter though, shouldn't they have included a receiver instead?

It's just nice to have a snappy interface. And a snappy interface is directly affected to how fast your CarPC can process it.

I see it how I see hotrods. You ask why so much power... I ask how we can get it to put out more.

By using a transmitter, they can transmit the audio from the computer over an FM frequency which can be picked up by the car's factory radio tuned to a certain station. Makes much more sense than a receiver.

well i can see the argument for both... the thing i don't get is that if it's targetted at OEMs, you'd think they'd have a better option for hooking in audio than an FM transmitter.

if you ask me, the thing that it is *really* missing or maybe i just didn't see it is an integrated dc/dc power converter & startup-shutdown controller.

at any rate, it's good to know that companies are starting to take the market for this stuff seriously.

I used one of those FM transmitters back in 2000 when I had my first carPC. It was a desktop pc in the back seat connected to a 4" lcd sitting under my dash. The only way I could get the audio into the stereo was to use an FM transmitter back then. Oh the memories...

This is hardly a car or electronic trade show.

Even so, it's still a 1Ghz eden processor. Hardly new technology.
It's essentially a smaller version of VIA's MII-10000 boards designed for embedded OS configurations.
The MII-10000 is not exactly a speed demon, as many others can attest to.

I read the above objections, but what EM-ITX or Nano-ITX motherboard would you prefer? I have yet to see anyone even selling one ofthese, Google only returns the previously mentioned press releases. One plus, this is the only motherboard I have found that has a FFC for the LCD. VIA claimed this was going to be "the first in a series of dedicated x86 in-vehicle platforms for developers of car PCs". Has anyone heard of the second in the series that might overcome some of the objections stated?
