USB Overboard?!

EDIT: I got answers for all questions... new question on post 7

Do I have too many USB devices? I'm powering an Intel D945GCLF2 board w/ Atom 330, LCD, a 7-port hub and slimline slot-load dvd drive from an M1/M2-ATX. I've been trying to calculate power consumption,
but it has been a real PITA.

What is the 5V power draw from a touchscreen controller, Andrea PureAudio USB-SA USB soundcard, and the Logitech diNovo USB adapter?

If anyone could just take a moment to look at their device manager and see what windows report, I would really appreciate it.

All help is appreciated.

Thanks!
-VJ

You can check the USB power draw of each device in Windows Device Manager;

Under the USB section, check the 'USB Hub' devices and then the Power tab.
It will tell you how much power each port is drawing.

thanks fridge. I forgot to consider that. I also forgot to mention that I don't have all the parts/devices yet.

Basically, this is what I'm trying to find out...

1) What is the power consumption of:
-- Lilliput EBY-701 touchscreen controller
-- Andrea USB-SA mic adapter
-- Logitech diNovo adapter
(all three are still unknown)

2) If the DVD is externally powered at 2A (and is labeled at 2A), how much power (if at all) would it draw from the USB port? (Answered: it'll draw 500mA max from the port)

3) Same situation with a hub: would it be constantly drawing 3.5A from the PSU? and what about the USB hub? (Answered: It'll draw 3.5A max, but not constant)

Thanks!

got two out of three questions answered. Now I just gotta figure out the first one...

What is the 5V power draw from a touchscreen controller, Andrea PureAudio USB-SA USB soundcard, and the Logitech diNovo USB adapter?

If anyone could just take a moment to look at their device manager and see what windows report, I would really appreciate it (and I'd stop asking so many annoying questions. This'll be the last time, I promise ).

Okay, so I made a few phone calls and got all of my questions answered. Another one came up while I was finalizing my cost calculations.

I need to do at least 3 USB runs from the front to the back for the Touchscreen, the DVD drive and a completely full 7-port hub. Do I need to spend the extra cash for an active USB repeater/extension cable? or can I use a regular passive cable? I know the limit's ~15ft (guessing from USB from board to the computer), but what about USB hubs?

I'd like to know how much I'd need to spend on USB extension cables (ranges from total of $3 to $40; a significant difference!)?

All the posts that I found were from before 2005, so I dunno how much has changed since then.

USB is time sensitive information. If too much time passes (i.e. too long of a cable length) it errors out.

3m is generally acceptable for passive runs, anything over that you should use active. Having said that, I have gone 5m passive with no issues, but not in a noisy car environment. Specifications and the USB gods that be, say your length requires the use of an active cable. The gamble is yours.
