PC Hangs with cursor at upper left
I have an Intel D945CLF board, with an M4-ATX supplying power. When it's powered up, the cursor sits at the upper left for about 10 seconds and then it finally flashes the Intel logo and the PC actually begins to boot.
Any idea on what's causing this???? I've reflashed the BIOS and tried (not sure if successful) to reset the M4-ATX to factory default - even though I haven't ever communicated with it/changed it in ANY way.
I've unplugged my SSD and SATA DVD drive but I still have the issue. This is driving me absolutely insane. After the bootup it works perfectly fine. ?!!?!?
PLEASE I will have eternal gratitude to anyone that can help with this thing!!!

is network boot your first boot device?
network or video bios enabled?
is all the ram detected by the os?

BIOS options
Yep, I've shut off everything except for the HD from bootup. Even if the network option was on, it doesn't do it until after the Intel banner/logo pops up. It seems like it doesn't even give power to the motherboard while that cursor is there....except that all of the fans and devices (HD and DVD drive) turn on. :/
With that said I thought it may be linked to the M4-ATX power supply. But I'm not sure what else to try with that thing.

if the motherboard didn't have power you wouldnt be able to see anything...
turn off fast post or similar option and let it run the full post->look for error messages
disable the bios graphic so you can watch error messages....see if anything appears before the flashing cursor.

Hmm...will turn the logo off. Wasn't looking for any errors around there and I should be. Figured whatever is failing would have halted the system - but I should know better.
Thanks for the help! Spending the next few hours and will be ripping it out of the car and hooking it up to a normal PS if I have to.

do you have a creative brand USB sound card? i know for sure that the x-fi sound card will do exactly what you are describing-- i had one, and have also talked to other x-fi/945gclf owners and it is something about the two-- they just don't get along-- it doesn't matter what you disable in bios.
otherwise, it might be some other usb device that takes a while to initialise, and refuses to allow the system to boot before it does.

Sound card
Aarrgh!!! I don't know if I should be happy or peeved off. Soundman you nailed it right on the head!! Thanks!!! I did actually take out the entire PC(which isn't hard..just real easy to forget to hook up something.
Now I'm not sure what to do. Will have to think about this a bit. I love that external card because I have it sitting right next to my gear shifter. I can adjust the volume just by moving my hand a few inches.
Hmm...maybe I could setup a power delay relay of some sort, so it doesn't "connect" until later. (via a USB hub or something....!?!?!).
Well, I've got to say I'm glad I finally posted this. Thanks justchat for giving it a shot...Soundman98 I owe you one!!

no problem. if you like the sound card, and don't want to upgrade, you will just need to put up with the delay-- i have seen posts from a lot of other 945/x-fi users, and the only way to correct the delay is to either change your sound card, or change your motherboard, and neither are exactly cheap options...

Yep...do you know if the same thing occurs with the D945GCLF2 board? I'm guessing it would since it's generally the same chipset just with dual core capability.
This is a bit disheartening considering all I've been through. I planned this all out ahead of time and after all of this...bam, I'm stuck with this annoying issue and now have a bunch more work to do to fix it.
Bah...there are greater tragedies in the world. I'll suck this up and just deal with it for now.

i believe that it is only a issue with the 945gclf...wait, checked the thread, customaudioman had a diferent intel motherboard, but still the same issue:

I can confirm that the same thing occurs with the D945GCLF2 board. I believe it's not limited to sound devices, some other USB devices cause the boot lag also.
