i think i may be able to pick up a p266 mhz laptop from my dad for free. two questions though.

1. it only has a 4 gig drive. i am definitely using windows b/c of future plans (dvds, gps, etc). what kind of options do i have for extended storage? there is a cd in it, but that is only another 650 mB.

2. the display that i am looking at uses ntsc outputs. since the laptop only has a standard moniter port on it, am i out of luck anyway? or is there a way to convert the signal so that i can use the laptop with the ntsc display?

any help is greatly appreciated.

You can buy a bigger laptop Hard Drive. I know they are up to 14 gig and maybe larger with those. Or get an external USB hard drive and carry it in or out to update your song collection.


Yeah, you can get a converter. I'm not sure where or how much, but this question has come up before. Maybe try searching the back discussions. Also, if you are interested in DVD, you can get PCMCIA DVD-ROM and PCMCIA Decoder card <a href='http://www.expnet.com/product.nsf/p/DVD-785'>here</a>.

I had a similar problem, my laptop only had a 2 gig harddrive. Sinse my computer was older I couldnt over a 6 gig HD for it and the cost of it was way over any limit for such a small HD.

I went to www.microtech-pc.com and purchased there pcmcia external Harddrive bay. I then went out and got myself a nice pc laptop which is alot cheaper then a laptop HD and the external bay was shock resistent. Everything works great, its a little bulky but its still all fits under my seat.
