The Possibilities of Bluetooth

so far you can get on the internet with a bluetooh phone and there is some software to use your bluetooth phone as a remote. is it possible to do both at the same time? and what's next?

1. it would be nice to have a girder-type program that allows us to control anything not just a few select programs.

2. make calls using contacts located on the computer.

3. use your computer as a hands-free device by sending audio to the car's speakers and using the computer's mic.

4. with a bluetooth laptop or handheld you can sync files.

After getting an Axim and a bluetooth module, I can only say that bluetooth is NOT ready for prime time. After buying into the hype, everything sounded cool, everything sharing data with everything, but getting my axim to active sync with my desktop took a week of troubleshooting and reading random forums. I'm not sure if a bluetooth device can use more than one profile at a time, and the profiles could be the downfall of bluetooth. From what I've read, the hardware design of the chipsets are near bullet proof, its the profiles that are associated with the hardware that cause all of the problems. Modules dont talk to eachother when they should, certain modules only support a few profiles (ie the Microsoft Bluetooth Desktop & the HID profile). 1 might be able to be accomplished using maybe the serial port profile and copious amounts of coding. I dont see 2 happening without support for it on the phone, and in theory, 3 and 4 availible right now.

Since you have experience with BlueTooth perhaps you can answer my question.

DigitalWW is selling a BlueTooth enabled flexable keyboard. Couple that with the fact that the new DeLorme GPS unit comes in a BlueTooth model I'm wondering weather I could use both simultaniously with only one BlueTooth adapter onboard. If this in fact works, it would be the answer to some future cabling problems I'm desperate to avoid.

Any thoughts or conjectures?

I’m planning something similar but with a serial cable instead of the bluetooth.
I want to use my carputer as a hands free set.
- use the speaker system
- use a mic that is connected to the computer.
- let the computer dail.
- mute for incoming calls.
- etc. etc.

For starters I need to find out what pins are used for which signal. Can anyone help? I have a Siemens C50, but think all Siemens phones use the same connection.

I remember at CES 3 years ago they were pushing this BIG time
I said then that it was a pretty cool technology but it will be hard to implement
They had a completely grand scheme which incorporated all of your personal electronics. Just wont happen
Hasnt really taken off but within the last year its seen much more recognition and REAL WORLD PRODUCTS

I only have one bluetooth device (my axim) but we do have some microsoft bluetooth desktops at work, and the adapter supports both the keyboard and mouse via different HID connections, so I'm not sure if it can handle multiples of only one type, or handly multiple types at the same time. And the few vendors who make the bluetooth chipsets shipped over a million if my memory serves last year (from some article i was reading in network world or info week or the like), so they should be cropping up a lot more. Lets just hope they start playing nice, because the concept is quite nice.

Bluetooth is awesome, but it's not primetime like mentioned above.

I have a Palm TT (BT built-in) and a T68i. I can keep my phone anywhere within 30ft and send SMS, surf internet and dial calls from my address book. I didn't think this was much until I got a Jabra BT handsfree wireless headset... WOW

I never dial on my phone, reach for the TT, stat dialing, then the Jabra I talk into, wireless... my phone is by the window for good reception and I walk around my room freely... very cool.

Certain BT devices only allow 2 devices paired, some more. Most computer-based BT devices allow many pairs.

I am keen on DigitalWW's BT keyboard ... but the GPS one will still use batteries whereas USB draws power from the PC, that's the only reason I am iffy.

I rant, but BT is great for PAN (Personal Area Networks) but I'll hold off on the car for a few months to see what other toys come out.

how are you dialing from your palm? any special software? i remember seeing a concept car with a built-in bluetooth hands-free device that supposedly worked with any bluetooth phone. it had voice-dialing using contacts located on the device.

I'm seriously looking into bluetooth myself now, as I have just bought a Nokia 3560 Camera phone.

First thing is a BT Headset, but I'm likely to follow that up with something for the CarPC (prob USB based Dongle).

then any photos taken at our Monday Car club meet can be zapped straight to the PC. Then Wi-Fi to my home PC once I return home.
