All In one touch screen flat screen computer for cheap

Hello All,
I myself am not selling anything so I wasnt sure exactly where to post this. If an amin feels it needs to be move, go for it. As many of oyu know, I have a hacked i-opener. The iO community has stumbled across a deal to buy a new gateway internet appliance that has the following specs:

Connected Touch Pad Includes: · Transmeta 400mgz/32 ram/32 flash · 10" Touchscreen color LCD display · Wireless keyboard with shortcut/branding keys · Built-in V.90/56K² modem and HPNA home phoneline networking· Stereo speakers and microphone · Two USB ports · Your Choice of operating system (BE, mobile linux, windows CE)

So far we have gotten the price down to 225 for this awesome machine! heres a clip from our forum over there:

"The sale closed with only one bidder out of five securing units. They purchased 100 at the asking price of $250. The other bidders were $190/20, $175/20, $200/10 and our bid of $200/75.

The seller still has 900 units, and has immediately reposted them with an asking price of $225 and a sale closing date of 5/24. I have already reposted our bid for 75 @ $200. If we're really anxious, we can up our bid to $225 at any time and secure our order.

The unit has had a hard drive added to it to. Heres another quote:

"I received some interesting emails off-board last night from someone who says they have already hacked their unit with a HD & WinCE OS. They also provided some additional details, but wish to remain anonymous at this point. I've asked for permission to post the technical aspects of their work, and will do so as soon as they reply."

This would be an ideal mp3 car machine. Touch screen, fast enough to play mp3s, windows ce for fast booting! We also beleive the system to be hackable to run regular linux of windows 98. For 225 you can not beat this price. wow, I am surprised no one has any comments on this one. To me, this seems like the best solution for a mobile car mp3 player. And sure can't beat the price. What do you guys think?

Does anyone know what the expansion capabilties are? Can a PCI card for ethernet, sound card, or such be added?

What media is the OS embedded on? Compact Flash? Disk On Chip?

What about drivers for the touchscreen? Can they be downloaded? Are they available for an OS other than Windows (preferably linux)?

at the time being we know a hard drive and cd rom can be added to this board. The 32 meg sdram can also be upgraded. The os's come stock on a flash memory media. If you get windows 98 or linux (both will work I believe so far), you can get an external usb sound card that works in windows and I believe linux. It sounds good. As far as other upgrades like adding new kinds of cards, I really dont think its tooo possible, but there is a compact pci slot and I know there is a built in lan adapter (no lan connector though, a hack should come out with it soon). I wish I could get one and get hacking it before i post anymore info but I dont know how much you are goin to get one of these things later on for. As far as touch screen drivers for linux and windows, none have been found so far. But there are drivers for the touchscreen in the mobile linux and windows ce so porting one by someone are finding one shouldnt be that hard. Bu still, for a flat screen comp with 400 mhz, modem, sound, lan, and ram, 225 buxs is dang cheap.

Also the LCD is a dual scan, if it is able to get a desktop os working on it, what will movies and gps be like on it seing as dont have much video power?

1. plus if you hack it to use hdd it will have to be external ide or will it have to be a usb hdd.
2. what usb soundcards work with it (4 channel) as this is a diffent must for a mp3car.
3. by putting a normal os on where are you going to get drivers for the keyboard, etc. will it still work ?
4. also by putting normal os will it make the touch screen just a normal screen, unless you could get some, drivers and software

At my previous job, I got to play around with a SonicBlue (formerly S3) webpad with nearly the same specs. Ours was running linux.
Be aware that the transmeta chip is not nearly as fast as you'd think, from the mhz. But it should still be more than adequate for mp3s and perhaps gps.

For $225, I might just buy one to install a wireless card in so I can websurf from my couch.

At this point, I would refer all interested parties to the I-Appliance board for more info - There's no need to duplicate the wealth of information that is available there... And believe me - There is a *TON* of it.

Hello dos4who. My nick is just shaxs on the i-aplliance web board. I am also the one who is currently working with r_fl_z on spear heading a new custom i-Opener case. I got the ball rolling and I am letting r_fl_z step in because he says he can fund it. And folks, even if you dont use this as an mp3 player, for 225 buxs it cheap for a computer!

Dos4who.... I wanted an epods but I work at a grocery store and go to college full time so I am a poor brotha =) But, I just couldn't pass up this deal! I am whipping out the credit card! I also have a few people who have heard about my i-opener in the car and I get everything working right, they want me to build them one! This gateway could cut the cost nicely.
