can I fit two DIN sized devices in my Ford Ranger?

I have a 1996 Ford Ranger with a factory stereo that I would like to replace with a CD/radio receiver AND an in-dash LCD screen. The opening is almost 4" tall but I don't think that it's quite double-DIN sized. Has anyone taken out their factory stereo and could tell me how much space is in there to stuff in other components?

post 95 explorer/rangers are about 1/4" shy of double DIN. You can make double DINs to fit but you have to do some modifications. I've done quite a few F150s for double DIN radios. Explorers and Rangers would be alot easier than the F150's

yeah, it's just shy, but if you're good with a dremel, and maybe some fiberglass then you're good to go

I hate dremels. I would never use a dremel inside a car for 2 reasons. 1, it makes a mess. plastic shavings everywhere. 2, if you slip, there goes the dash. If you're gonna use the dremel for cutting dash, remove the dash panel and cut it outside of the car. It's easier to clean. Always cut from the back side not the front side. If you slip, the only part its gonna scratch is the back side which you'll never see once you put the dash panel back in. I've always use air saw with new blades at high speed. Never use dull blades cuz it wont cut and you end up melting the plastic. new blades are also easier to control. If you dont have either dremel nor air saw then go with the good ole file.

Good advice, I thought most people would have enough sense to take the pieces out though, but there is always that somebody.....

To tell the truth, most of my dash cutting days have been with a drill, razor knife, and sandpaper
