the question is basically in the topic...but if i drop a win98 box in my trunk will my 10 inch twin rockford punch xlc's erase the hard drive? just a thought....

also...i'm thinkin about using a 4" video lcd unit a friend of mine has and hooking it into a video out card from the computer...it would be awesome to have the winamp plugins running while the music pumps...anyone tried this yet?

I very much doubt that your subs will do anything to the hard disk.. I guarentee you that it won't erase it.. it could damage it.. but I really really doubt that.. the shock from big bumps in the road would be alot harsher than any amount of subs.. hard disks are tough.. if you are gonna buy a new one, go with a quantum.. they are the toughest..

As for the 4" LCD.. if you get a TV out card you can do this, although you will loose a lot of quality and I doubt that a 4" screen would be big enough to read text... you could have full screen winamp plugins going no probs though.. but just don't expect to be reading the start menu or anything..

I would just throw some foam in the case to dampen the vibrations. I dont think it should be a problem. Buy a shock resistant Quantum Fireball if you are still woried

I run a 4" color TFT-LCD off mine and it works just fine as long as you dont mind straining to read the screen and you can double the size of the Winamp. I also run a DVD on my computer and thats the main use of the LCD. Im installing a second 4" LCD and a 6.5" LCD next.

Did you mean the magnets from teh subs erasing the hard disk?

Why are you all straining so much to see the song titles when you could just use a front-end that would make it all full-screen and big enough to read very easily. You could even write your own front end, lord knows it's not difficult at all. All you need to do is use nullsoft's aO plugin, and just size everything just as big as you want it, and you can position it all wherever you want it. And you can make everything whatever color you want. If you don't like the look of aO, just download that Winamp plugin that lets you use Sonique (I think) skins and then make a big, full-screen Sonique skin for it that is as pretty as you want it. Easy as pie.

I had a laptop sized hard drive in a computer that was right next to a 12" sealed subwoofer and when the bass got really loud my computer would freeze because of the thumps. The hard drive has been working fine and after I put a sheet of foam between the computer and subwoofer enclosure.
The magnets wont erase the hard drive either, your biggest problem would be the bumps from driving over pot holes but there isnt a whole lot you can do about that unless you use a custom mounting solution for the hard drive. In other words, dont worry about it... just make a backup of the entire hard drive once you get your system working the way you want it to in case something does happen.
