wireless lan antenna connector

hi there.. i recently bought a 28$ wireless-lan usb-adaptor. i opened it today, since i probably will build it into the rear wing of my car so i have reception in front of my house..
i then saw, that it only has one antenna... all my other adaptors do have two.. but i saw a funny thing that looks like a connector..
please take a look at it on the picture and tell me what it could be... is this an antenna connector where i can plug-in an external antenna without having to chop the original cable? if so, what is the connector that goes into this slot?

any help is appreciated.

I haven't seen any antenna usb wireless adapters. But if you search google, you will find plenty of cable extension and antennae for wireless access points and routers that may work.

I've used a wireless lan adapter on campus. It can easily pick up a signal without any special antenna while driving. The usb adapter was in the cargo area of my SUV under the tonneau cover. It may be easier/better to add the antenna to the router/access pt in the house.

Doesn't look like any connector I've ever seen. You should have the little pin or reciever for a pin in the center if it is a standard connector. You should just solder on your on N connector so you can attach any antenna you want and not have to deal with those expensive pigtail adapters. I know mine is going to break and am not looking forward to spending the $20. It is inevitable with pins that look like a strand of hair.

i thaugt i might just chop off the little "antenna" and solder on a regular N connector as you say and then attach maybe a 5db gain antenna, probably already enouth for my application...

go to www.netstumbler.com for info, but that looks like an adjustable resistor or something similar, it's too small to be an antenna connector. I've got an avaya usb gold client, if you take it apart there is an antenna plug on the orinoco gold card hidden inside. The antenna plug is under a small rubber plug at the end of the card.

It could be a RP-MMCX plug.... I have one on my Haicom-302 CF GPS for connecting an external antenna. Check this to see how it should look like.
