Hurm, starting to lean away from the in software shutdown feature. Have so many things I'm finding out I can do, seems foolish to spend time on something no one wants..

Now then, what I want is an idea of what file formats everyone uses, no matter how uncommen. Be it JPG image viewing to DVD, which is planned. Let me know..

What's going in now? Well this is in the works;

* MP3 Winamp control w/Playlist managment (Albums)
* Normal CD playback within program
* DVD Playback within program
* AVI/MPG Playback within program
* Divx is possible, it's an AVI after all, right?

So what I'm wondering is what all functions are used in Carputer installs. Be it as simple as a JPG image, or to a DVD player which is in the works. Let me know what you think would be kewl to add.

I should have an Alpha done by the end of the month. I know, long time, it'd take me a week normally, but I do have other work I must do.

Hmmm, not sure what I'm looking for on this site.. Hardware wise though I was thinking a standard game pad that you can buy at K-Mart or something dirt cheap. This way it would be easy to modify for newbies and no so technically inclined people, and very inexpencive..

im in the same boat as carlos and we have simlar designes in or systems...i am a newbie POWER person.. i dont understand why you cant have an IR remote that can be programmed to do anything yu want on windows including a shut down botton that that does it auotmaticly... and if waiting the 10 sec is too long just get one of those things UPS used to tell the computer to shut down when power is cut.. i prob dont know what im tlking about but this is what im basicly doing on my system

Sure, you could use IR and have it shutdown with one button. That's easy. The thing is you have to remember to do that, and (if you have an inverter) remember to shut that off whenever you get out of the car. It gets old after a while Not to mention it's kinda of ghetto. A system that turn on and off WITH the car is what we ultimately want. No fussing around with switches constantly and having to think about it.

Nor I... The problem is getting there.. The more I think about it, software shutdowns should not be a factor..

Seems a hardware only means of doing it is the best. Just a matter of thinking through.. Being able to shutdown the comp, kill the power to the inverter, THEN turn the dang thing back on with the key.

Now, I know shutdown hardware exists for ATX boards, and I know they can also kill the power to the inverter, but does any one designed that you know of also turn the power back on with the key?

*shrugs*
