laptop hdd in desktop

i've got a dead compaq laptop with a good hdd
is it possible to use a laptop hdd in a desktop
the laptop hdd was a very small conector compared to an IDE is there some sort of converter avalible.

Yeah, there's plenty of adapters available. Just look for 2.5" - 3.5" adapters

there are always a ton on ebay, and there pretty cheap, ~$5.

Have a look at www.eyo.com.au - I got one there for approx AUD$6.

Make sure you connect it correctly so that the smoke doesn't get out of the drive!
