Question COM port stopped working... need help!

question folks - my COM port just stopped recognizing my IRMAN, but device manager says it's working fine. Any ideas? OH yeah it's currently on Com1.

Thanks,

keep thing this until u rule out any other thing. If all else fails. Get ur self a new mb.

I had this problem after running my car PC for over 3 months...all of the sudden it stopped working. Might have been bc I turn it off and on so often whithout properly shutting it down. Well I added one of those ISA cards that adds serial ports to your computer. If you looking for one of those I can sell it for $10, I am not using it anymore.

Unhappy

If you put a mouse on the COM port, does it work? If not, then it may be blown. Happens occasionally.

This kind of depends on which version of windose you are using, but have you tried deleting the entry(s) for the comm port in the device manager?

Then reboot, and see if windows finds it.

Also double check your bios settings to make sure it is still enabled and the IRQ and address aren't conflicting something else. (I have to manually set my laptop bios to enable the comm port vs IR port)
