V1 connected to the carputer?
Ok, right now I have hardwired V1 with remote. I also got BC245 police scanner and plan to buy a laser jammer (as you can see, I need to protect myself from the speeding tickets ). In any case I want to connect all this equipment to the carputer. Reasons are:
1. all info will go to the same screen.
2. BC245 has COM port connector and I got the protocol, so I can control the scanner the way, I want it. And all I want it to search frequancies for the police car repeaters. If scanner can find a repeater, it means, that we have officer in 1 mile radius. This is similar to what Uniden BC12 police detector does.
3. Laser jammer might set a false alarms on the V1. By controlling both devices, I can figure out what is the false laser alarm.
In any way I am looking for the ways to connect V1 and laser jammer (I do not know which one, because I do not have jammer yet) to the serial port on my carputer.

Interesting idea you have though,,

1. why?
2. Well the repeater thing "only works if the officer is talking on his hand held radio". Pointless feature I think, seeing how more and more cops are going to ditigal.
3.Laser jammers do work, but only transmit when they detect a signal.

1. It is more clean, than have remote display, etc. Plus I can put some logic. I can make AI to decide what is the real signal and what is a door opener. I even can hook it to my CoPilot GPS and make decissions based on location/speed. In case of radio scaner, I defenatly need to put logic because I do not want to listen to police radio myself.
2. I based on http://radartest.com/article.asp?articleid=8000 So far I got a Police Call books and looking into the collecting the repeater freq.
3. Thanks. BTW is it true, that I can keep my low beams on all the time and it will confuse laser for a second?

1. So basicly you would rather look at a screen? instead on keeping your eyes on the road? If you dont want to listen to the radio scanner just turn it off. You dont need a program for that.
2. Radio scanners wont tell you when cops are ahead or behind you.
bct-12 & bct-7 which I both have. Have a built in feature mobile extenders which picks up "when police transmit on there portable radios", and repeats it back to there mobile radio in there car. Cops only use there portable radios like 1% of the time. Like when your on the ground and there calling for backup.
3. No, having you low beams or Hight beams does not fool laser. If you want to jam laser, you need a laser jammer. http://www.radarbusters.com/products...rs/default.asp

thanks for the reply. I will get a laser jammer, sell the Radio Scaner and I am keeping my eyes on the road. BTW I wanted to put some head up display (so I can do both - see radar warning and drive), but it is just a plan

You know, he asked for help hooking up his V1, not for your lecture on what he should and should not be using in his car. The basic fact is that V1s and Scanners are perfectly legal (in most states) and so he can go ahead and use them all he wants (and I think he should).
Does anyone know the protocol for the V1 remote display? I'd like to do something similar.

Do you mean remote volume control or the concealment display?
I have my concealment display mounted the instrument cluster and I have no problem noticing it. My remote volume controller was stolen with my radio (I am happy my V1 was not in my truck at the time).
I drive as fast as the situation will allow. Around 80 but on the interstate, but If I find someone hauling A** That’s my mark I hang back and follow just in sight. Now without some one to follow to take the heat is a decision Is the ticket is worth it?
Good luck

Thanks Mr. Trollbait, you astound me with your expert knowledge on such advanced features as Search. Perhaps you could enlighten us all and point to a thread that documents the remote unit protocol? All I have ever seen around here is the wire breakdown and some not-so-practical ideas about sticking IR detectors on the faceplate.
What is really needed is the baudrate and Huffman patterns for the display so that it can be wired to a 9-pin DIN and plugged into anything from a serial port to a USB adapter. Maybe I'll sit down with it this weekend and try to figure it out.

I live in New York and drive in New Jersey. I know, that I cannot use scanner in New York in my vehicle, but it is iffy, if I hook it to the computer and do not listen to the sound (so I do not "listen" to police transmission). But in general, you are right, I will sell BC245XLT on ebay (same place, I bough it from) and concentrate on laser jammer.
Back to V1. I have V1 main unit mounted right under the rear view mirror. I have hard wired it to and put wire into the A pilar. and I put the concealed display under my tach in instrument cluster. Still I want to route information from the concialed display to my computer. I know some companies inquire this info directly from Vallentine1.com I should write a letter. But of cause I will search forums first.
Cheers

Look i dont care if you listen to police, fire,cb etc.
Basicly you need a new scanner to listen to New York etc. Uniden just released the BC296 digital scanner Hand held! I just pick one up.
If you want that highway alert feature check out the uniden BCT-8. The bct-8 is the bct-12 and bct-7 combined neat radio.
http://207.36.47.252/scanner/bct8.htm
check out this site has all the freq's for everystate and and nice forum! ands not full of jerks like "spectrumzz"
