MB questions.... do I have to use a laptop HD?

I am debating which form factor to go with, and many people seem to use the EPIA M10000. but will I have to use laptop sized HD and devices? I want to know since I would imagine laptop HD's will be far more than standard ones.

I use a 20 GB western digital desktop hard drive mounted vertically and its has about 40 hours of use on it so far with no problems. And it rides in a truck which is not the smoothest of rides.

no you don't have to use a laptop hd ... most people do because they have lower power requirements and are built to take a beating.

however they are also more expensive.

Thanks, I can just build a little suspension for my HD, I am looking to go cheap with this project. But to be honest as far as input, I really don't want to have to use a remote with odd buttons, or a keyboard so I may actually buy the lilliput that I see people using. Touchscreen would truly make it a nice install that would be easy to use.

where did the input statement come from ... i thought we were talking about hard drives ... seriously touchscreen is the way to go tho. You will need some sort of keyboard/mouse for emergency situations and other rare occasions when you may want it. (inputing all the track data to rip a friend's cd) (only until you can buy your own of course B) )

be careful with suspending the hard drive also. too much suspension and it could oscillate (sp) which would be bad. the best practice for 3.5" hard drives is to mount them vertically (from what i hear around here)

Funny that you guys mention this. I was considering mounting a 3.5 HDD on top of a wrist-rest gel pad. That would absorb shock real well. I'm not sure how to keep is secure to the gel pad - maybe velcro.

Whaddaya think? Good idea, or dumb a$$?

Sounds good to me but use silicone glue to secure everything, it is hella strong and flexible forever.
