Best mountable, DC powered USB Hubs?

I have an EPIA board and it only has two USB ports and with the ever expanding number of peripherals hooked into my computer I am in serious need of some USB Hubs. Several of my devices (USB HDD, USB 802.11b adapter, etc.) take up pretty much all the power that a single USB port can supply, so hubs that get their power from the USB port are not an option. I also am running off DC, so wall-wart powered hubs are not an option. I have managed to power several peripheral devices that would ordinarily run off bricks by using the +5 and +12 volt lines of the molex connectors coming off my power supply. Both of the USB hubs I have tried require unusual voltages (7.5 volts). So, anyone have any ideas on how I can get some powered USB hubs to work in my car? I would ideally like something that can easily be mounted.

I have a USB2 hub which IIRC said it needed 6V. I hooked it up to my 5V from the PSU, and it is working, powering a USB GPS, and a USB2 to IDE adapter for my slimline CDROM drive

Check for some more USB hubs, there are some out there that run off 5ish volts

Yes, I know that there must be some out there that work, but saying so doesn't help me any. If you have something that works reliably off the 5 of 12 volt lines of a molex connector, could I please get some brand/model numbers. I don't want to just go around buying USB hubs until I find one that works.

This is what I bought, works perfectly off my 5V line: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3054173165 . It has four hi-speed ports and is the smallest powered hub I could find for cheap. They are now 3M stuck in my glove box. Just search ebay for "Mini USB 2.0 HUB" and you'll find a lot.

I didn't know that they even made 7.5V hubs, that's is rediculous in my opinion. It must be regulated internally to 5V.

Have you guys checked this out ?? Seems like a cool idea, and with a little ingenuety you'd be able to mount or modify it not to expose the guts...

http://www.siig.com/product.asp?part...20-%20Internal

it seems to take power from a floppy drive power hookup...

thanks for the link. I wouldn't be suprised if closer inspection of that board reveals it to be using just the 5v or 12v... both good for what we're talking about :-)

I really like the looks of that one from siig, particularly that it takes a floppy connector. I think I saw one like that at Fry's once, so I will check there in the next few days.

If you look closely, the Picture shows the power adapter just to the left of the USB Square Uplink Connector...

Will this work, it sais it's powered via the USB Hub and has per port overload protection, but I wonder weather that hub would support say 4 Mobile USB2.0 DVD ROM drives... (Powered off the USB Port) Not that I need that many but as far as power draw goes I wonder ....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...31495&tc=photo

Than again for under $10 ... we'll see... And there's other auctions for that price too

Not directly related but I purchased on of these cables

http://linitx.com/shop/product_info.php/products_id/323

Its converts the mini-usb connector for the 3rd and 4th USB ports on the Epia MB into a normal MB connector. Its works a treat with the front connectors on the 3688 case I have meaning that I've now got 4 usb sockets all able to give out the full 500ma.
