make sure you have dma turned on for the drive and have power dvd use acceleration

Unless you're running a very LEAN version of WindowsXP, 128Mb of RAM is not enough to run the OS and those applications without swapping. So the OS is constantly swapping pages in/out of RAM to the hard drive. This can dramatically slow windows down, and cause all of those frame drops. The solution would be to eliminate as many apps and services that are sucking up ram, that you can. Or get more ram.

he should still be ok with the mpeg card thats in the epias.. 128 is low but look into DMA first

ya i did with the help of frodobaggins (thanks) and it did help out with it. i turned the dma on but still got some frame drop and audio delay. guess i will get some 512ram next that should inprove it know any good place they sell cheap?

I've been running 64 megs in my celeron 500 for the past 4 years and I've had no problems at all. I'm able to run mappoint and winamp at the same time with no slowdowns and DVd playback is smooth.

You're running WindowsXP on 64 meg of ram?!?!? I'll bet your PC is a real speed demon!

My point above isn't that you can't run XP on 128 meg of ram, just that it will run much better with at least 256 meg. Without running XPlite, I wouldn't run XP without at least 512 meg. But that's just me. YMMV.

Windows2000 and XP have so many services and other memory hogging routines running by default that you need a lot of ram. If you dig into the OS and figure out what you can turn off or uninstall, you can majorly trim it down. But the point is that if you run out of ram, windows pages memory to disk. Disk (or virtual memory) is always slower than physical memory (ram). Paging to virtual memory creates a bottleneck, and affects performance. Doesn't matter if you're surfing the web, crunching numbers, 3D gaming, or watching dvds, the performance hit is still there.
