2nd Gen Ford Probe - Anyone have install experience?

I'm in the process of designing a modified center console trimpiece to accomodate a Lilliput touchscreen for my 2nd gen Probe GT. Space is rather tight and will probably require relocation / replacement of AC controls and auxilliary switches (see attached picture of stock trimpiece). FYI the upper opening is the DIN slot, the similar-sized opening below is for the stock AC controls (which does not have a similarly clean opening inside the console itself), and the lower slot houses a row of auxilliary pushbuttons. My current thought is to use fiberglass / bondo and extend the trim below the DIN opening about an inch or so out towards the rear of the car, then angle the AC controls to create enough space to just fit the touchscreen below them, and relocate the auxilliary buttons elsewhere (or replace them w/ the touchscreen and a RS232-capable microcontroller board).

So bottom line, does anyone have any experience with this car? I could use some feedback and any good ideas people have. This is my first install, but I have experience w/ fabricating and fixing trim parts. I really want to mold the display into the dash instead of sticking it out in front.

I'm trying to fit a 7" lilliput into my Probe as well. What I'm going to do is move the heater controls down to the bottom big space (where there is currently a little compartment to put stuff in) then put my screen in the top 2 slots.

Putting the screen in the bottom hole is not an option for me because I'll end up touching (or hitting/breaking) it while I shift (it's a manual, if you have auto you might be ok). And also you won't be able to see it as well at the bottom IMO.

I was thinking about the top... are you doing away with your head unit?

Oh, yes I am getting rid of my head unit. I guess I should've mentioned that That's the only way you can do it the way I'm doing it. Of course this is all just what I'm planning to do, when the screen comes in (been waiting 5 weeks, damn customs) I might change it around depending on the size of it.
