Post GM (DELCO/DELPHI) Aux Input

Searched the board and the net, but, so far not much luck on this. Has anybody been able to find an RCA adapter to the 9 pin data line on the back of the head unit. I've seen two adapters one by PIE and the other by Peripheralelectronics and the one by Peripheralelectronics is the only one with RCA inputs, but, it requires a cd changer to be installed. Anyone had any luck with this, I know I could use a modulator but don't really want to and I could also replace the deck, but I would rather stay with the factory deck.

Thanks,
Dave

Do you have a tape or cd player separate from your deck? If you do, I know that somebody with a Grand Prix did this and shows the pin codes on their website. I'll see if I can find this info.

Please post a pic or model number of your radio. I might be able to help you with more information.

ODYSSEY,

I'll have to pull it to get a picture. It is in a 2001 Silverado, it's a Delco CD player with an Aux Button and a 9 pin CD changer interface. It also has the auto tone control and auto volume control ( this is the factory cd player). I have found the pinouts for the 9 pin connector in the back, so I know what the audio in lines are, the problem is I need to get the CD player to think there is a changer hooked up in order to go into Aux mode.

Thanks again,
Dave

Superdave...I have a 2001 Blazer with an aux in and the separate tape deck. I'm interested in the pin out info that you have. I might see what the wires out of my tape deck do with a tape playing to see if I can emulate them. To complex to write my jumbled thoughts right now. If I could have the pinouts I will go do what I think will work. Thanks

CaliBoy,

Sounds great, let me know what you find. I was thinking of doing something simliar if I could get a hold of one the external inputs (tape/cd) I was going to hack the audio signal.

The pinouts are as follows

1. Battery Out
2. E & C Data
3. Ground Out
4. Audio Com In
5. Left In
6. Right In
7. Voice + in
8. Dimming Out
9. R14 Out

You need to get an tape deck for your Silverado. You can't just look-up the audio to the 9-pin connection. The HU looks for the tape deck when you press the aux button. Just cut the right wires and connect RCA inputs to them. Then put any tape in the tape player. I got mine @ "www.radiosandmore.com"

Tape Deck for Silverado and other trucks. http://www.radiosandmore.com/prod_de...sp?pn=16252315

ODYSSEY,

Thanks for the info, yeah that's what I figured I would have to do. It was between that and hooking into the cd input in the deck and using a blank cd. I'll probally hit a junkyard though since im just going to gut the tape deck, and I dont think I want to pay 150 for that Oh yeah anybody have a remote tape or cd out of gm for cheap???.

Thanks again,
Dave

Hi,

I have a cassette tape deck and a 6 disk's cd changer. Both are originals and come with my GM Vectra.
The code for my deck is DF742.

In the manual is writed:
c01 EXT SDA (I2C)
c02 EXT SCL (I2C)
c03 Telephone Audio Input
c04 EXT MRQ (I2C)
c05 E&C BUS
c06 N.C.
c07 TEL GND
c08 Signal GND
c09 CD Audio In L
c10 CD Audio In R

Is there any way to plug my mp3player here?

One way is to plug my mp3player Audio L & R instead of the cd player Audio L & R, but I think I'll have to let the cd changer playing and I don't want to do this.

Thanks for any help,

Diego Soares

PI gm9-aux

Superdave

I just read your post while searching for info on the PIE adapters. I'm looking into using one.

Quote:
it requires a cd changer to be installed

Actually, the installation instructions for the adapter say that if you have a CD changer it has to be disconnected . In fact the PIE adapter emulates the changer so you cannot use the changer.

See http://www.pie.net/gm9_aux_inst.htm
also http://www.pie.net/aux_appl_gm.htm#chevrolet
and http://www.pie.net/sec12sb1m.htm

What you do need is a head unit with changer controls, which according to the above pages, the 2001 Silverado does have. I have a 2001 Suburban and I assume the CD/Radio is the same.

I found the AAI-GM9 adaptor after getting a 99 silverado for Christmas. It is a great little adaptor. After hooking it up I now have no need to ground by box and have zero noise (engine whine or invertre hum). I paid around $50 for it and had a thread in Jan about it. Search for AAI-GM9. Insatll pics are at www.thethorns.net/install.html . You do have to have a working AUX attached for it to work. I have a cassette in the stereo and a Aux CD. I boot up the computer and when I get the display on I push the CD button on the stereo and then have to switch the Aux selector switch connected to the adaptor. You can have the factory Aux plus 2 others. I have an 1/8 in cable handy incase I want to hook up a protable MP3 player/Ipaq/etc... Let me know if you want to know the sites I found that sells it.
