How do I make Winamp atomatically load
I have been reading a bunch of old posts about a "shell" that is nesessary to make Winamp automatically load, needless to say I am a little confused. Can someone guide me through this or point me to somewere where I can read up on it?
Thanks

I'm sure the intelligent people will realize that what enabled me to read all of the old posts about this subject was the search button.
If anyone feels like explaining it, or pointing me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
Thanks

I believe he is refering to changing from the explorer and a shell to winamp as the shell. I don't remember where I saw this but it only requiered changing one line in a system file.

Dude, the info is on here, use the search button. I've done it. I could tell you what you want, but that then encourages other people with the same lack of initiative to not use the search feature either.
Fine, if I don't post it, this topic will probably be closed.
Edit your system.ini in the windows directory. Change the shell to winamp.

Ok ill get to the point...
edit system.ini
change
shell=Explorer.exe
to
shell=c:\program~1\winamp\winamp.exe
or if you dont have it installed there... put the location of the exe of it. And remember... NO SPACES...i dont know if you can use quotes in there, i dont have time to **** around with that, so i just stick the dos syntax (~1 and ~2) **** in there...

Look, don't talk to me about lack of initiative; I have read every thread that has the word shell in it. Virtually all of them say what King Snake said, which I still don't understand because I am not that familiar with the OS. I did find out through one of my books that changing the shell will not work for my application.
Thanks alexchannell, and King Snake for trying to help me out.
lstrunk, do me a favor, if you don't want to help, don't post.

If your that stupid, you don't need to be putting a computer in your car, I'm sorry.
If your more familiar with a different OS, use it. I've seen plenty of setups using Linux, DOS, Beos, etc.
ANYWAYS,
goto start, PROGRAMS, ACCESORIES, open notepad, open system.ini with it.
and edit that line.

I am tired of the constant bashing going on here... what ever happened to the old proverb, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"? I have frequented the mp3car forums and received lots of help regarding many aspects of my mp3car. I want to provide that same friendly, helpful atmosphere back to the people who are coming after me. I think all of us need to aspire to that.
Steve671: A few questions:
- is winamp the only app you need to run, or do you need other helper apps (such as lcd control apps) to be run at start also
- are you running a custom app that you created, or are you just running various other people's plugins/programs?
If you can list the names of the programs or plugins you are using, I can help you design a startup script if needed. I am in the process of creating a helper program that will facilitate the process of changing shells, setting up boot settings, etc.
I have already developed an mp3car app, which implements mappable keyboard control, playlist creating, queuing, spoken titles using ms agent, all configurable using an easy to use scripting language. I am going to release the program along with the source on my website in a few days, if you would like a copy of it, email me at jcrasta@optonline.net and I would be glad to help you.

lstrunk: Not knowing very much about an operating system has nothing to do with being stupid.
Crast: Thanks. I am using Winamp, Power DVD, and Keyspan remote software also. I just wanted Winamp to open automatically when the system boots up. I found that by putting the shortcut to Winamp in the startup folder it does this, and everything in Windows remains the same, which is exactly what I want it to do.
Thanks though.
