EPIA Standby Current?

Looking into standby as a method of fast bootup, has anyone looked into the standby current an EPIA m1000 consumes? I will leave USB GPS powered -which consumes 74mA in total ( for zero lock on times ) will be fitting a solar panel on parcel shelf that can deliver 500mA of charge current at 12V in daytime. which obviously averages out to around 200mA of sustainable power ( no power at night

) Will this be enough to power my epia in standby do you think?

Doubtful a solar panel will give you enough power. Have you considered using hibernation instead of standby? As long as you don't have a whole lot of memory (<= 128 MB) resuming from hibernate is faster than standard boot-ups.

22 seconds from hybernate to music. and I haven't "thinned" xp a bit.

But surely the GPS device, even if left powered up will not interact correctly with the PC after resumin from hibernation? I know mine doesn't (Haicom 202E + Epia800) as the PC knows the GPS device is there but no data is recieved from it. I end up having to do a full reboot (or disconnect/reconnect of GPS usb device) to solve it.

it will - I allready do it - 4pins on USB - two for power, and two for data - just connnect power lines to 12V>5V regulator and data lines to PC - works fine after hibernate - and no waiting around for a lock !!! at only 74mA it will last for months - but I'd like to run pc in standby aswell for even faster bootup... Aftersome research i've found the pc sould only consume 2-3watts in standby - 3watts at 5v ( standby lines is 5V ) = 600mA, it's close maybe if I doubled solar panels ( to give 1A with average 500mA, the car would charge the slight difference long as it wasnt left for a few weeks ( opus protects against anyway )

I dont know if this is something that can be done everyday (I'm guessing it isnt), but there have been a few times where my carputer ahs turned on at 6am (bios timer) and I haven't gotten into the car until 2pm. The car has always started fine. I'd guess that doing so often would limit battery life though.

My Epia M10000 draws ~110mA in standby with no usb devices attatched. You'll need to measure your total current draw with the USB devices attatched. Ideally the 'ignition off' current draw on your car battery should be less than 120mA however you can probably get away with 200mA draw...it won't be the best for your battery but it should be ok

was that a 110mA draw on the standby line or 110mA on the 12V PSU input?

i thought i had done some measurements for this and posted here but now i can't find them ...

anyway, i remember standby required significant power (over 100mA) while hibernate needed nothing. Hibernation is the way to go.
