Improving sound quality...

Hey everyone, ok i just finished hooking up my computer to my car and it sounds good but it seems like my cds sound better....noticbly better. The way i connected it was panasonic 903u cd player->aux->15feet rca->RCA to 1/8" stero plug converter cord ->creative 5.1 sound card.

Any suggestions why the quality isnt that great, is it normal for a cd to sound better then your computer? Thanks.

1 more thing, if i did upgrade my soundcard to an audigy 2(which one should i get out of all of the audigy 2 cards?), then would I be able to notice the difference, and would it be a big difference? thanks everyone.

Don't bother upgrading...really the only improvement on the audigy card is 24bit playback. Garanteed you have nothing encoded at 24 bit

Check a few things:

1. Quality of cables used... - use good quality (maybe monster or equiv with gold plated ends)
2. Volume level's - Is the computer volume set to high? I would suggest a 3/4 volume level and use the amps to power the rest.
3. Audio application - plugins can enhance the sound such as eq's etc.

Not so fast my friend, don't make any guarantees...I have some 24/96 dts cd's that won't play w/0 24 bit playback (that the audigy downconverts either way)....so I use my audiphile 24/96 w/ asio happily

whoops lol ok so most ppl don't good for you though! i think thats a first!
Other than that the audigy's only other benifit is a firewire port (that i'm aware of.) And you may want to double check the 24bit down grade...I've heard otherwise.
