poratble mp3 player and the car
I have recently seen the light through the ways of mp3. I want to purchase a portable player that is expandable, good quality, and has an easy to find functions. (Is the RIO a good player for $99, or am i getting what i'm paying for?) Also, what will i need to hook it up to my Kenwood deck? My deck is currently the single din that flips out to reveal a lcd screen (you can see why i don't want an empeg or more pricey system, since i just dropped $2,300 into the Kenwood!!!) Thanks for any player and hook-up advice anyone has

For the love of god, don't use a Rio.
Unless you like only listening to an hour of the same music over and over.
Read some of the MP3car examples. They'll show you what to do.

Sounds like you got ripped off dude. The most expensive Kenwood I've seen is $750. And that was before the markup (I own a car audio shop).

I only install Mp3 players for friends I know cause I know they can use a computer. The average joe consumer I think can't handle our veriaty of mp3 player. With the introduction of EMPEG that is changeing though.

Diamond Rio, in a car. Dont even try. Thats the same as burning some of your mp3's onto a CD. Since you have such a nice Stereo it seems, It will not cost too much to make an easy MP3 setup. Look at some sites.

Also, seeing as it is a high end kenwood deck, you should be able to plug an adapter into it that allows you to have and AUX function on the deck.. I don't know what possesed you to spend $2300 (a whole setup including computer, DVD, 12" Comtec LCD, TV Tuner, Deck, sub(s), 4 speakers, amp, IR remote could be done for that price).. but still..

I used a Kenwood equilizer/sub crosover, the line in is a Din type plug. The problem I found with the Kenwood jacks is that they have a non standard pin config (the bottom two pins of the horseshoe are slightly more spread than a standard din). You can buy a plug from Kenwood (KRD-310 - Din to RCA)which will probably cost you a weeks pay or you can buy a standard 8 pin Din and cut off the bottom two pins (which aren't used anyway)If you need the pin configuration email me and Ill find it for you.
