Griffin PowerMate? Can't get it to work... help please!
I purchased the Griffin Technology PowerMate on eBay and received it today. It didn't come with the installation disk but I quickly found software on the Griffin Tech site... DL'ed it and installed it... I have been jacking around with the thing for quite awhile today and have had NO luck. When I first plugged it in, the light was pulsing slowly... now the light is on solid... I have tried plugging and unplugging it several times, uninstalled and reinstalled the software a couple times and messed with all of the settings. STILL no luck! I am wondering if the software I DL'ed from Griffin (1.5.2) might be some kind of patch or something that needs to be installed over the OEM install from disk (if that makes any sense)... Any suggestions? I plan to continue messing with this thing ALL night until I get SOMETHING out of it... I assume that since the computer recognizes me plugging it in and unplugging it, and the fact that it lights up, that it ISN'T a bad PowerMate... I wanna figure it out ASAP so I can rest assured that I didn't get taken. Thanks in advance. TTYL!

If anyone here has the PowerMate and the original installation CD, is it possible to copy the "PowrMate.inf" file in the drivers folder and possibly send it via email? That is the ONLY thing so far that I have found that I could do because I don't have the original CD. If anyone can help a brotha out... please, PLEASE email it to me... rreed17@kc.rr.com

Thanks for the reply... but... I had already read that page... I have searched my computer and figured if it was installed correctly, I should be able to find the PowrMate.inf file, correct? Well... not anywhere on my puter. Anyone here have the PowerMate? If so, and IF you have your installation CD available... I'd REALLY appreciate it if you could afford a copy of the PowrMate.inf file. Or, I would like OTHER suggestions.

I downloaded the drivers from griffin and installed them and they came with the PowrMate.inf file. I can send it to you but there must be something you are doiing wrong if you installed it and cant find the file. Running XP?

Hi coachreed,
I had the same problem at the beginning. My Problems (think so) caused because i have a USB keyboard and Mouse. I think the Powermate driver has Problems when there are more HID-Interfaces than his owne. I unplugged any HID-Interfaces and then only plugged in the Powermate. And than it worked. After this you can pluggin the Keyboard and Mouse. It should be working. I have the same Driver (1.5.2) from the Website. Sometimes the Powermate don't worke again and I must restart the procedure with unplugging and then plugin the Powermate...
P.S: Sorry for my english

I DLed the software from the Griffin site and ran it. It automatically checked for updated software and then installed. I let it install in the default location and when it was done, it confirmed that it installed successfully. The problem with looking for the .inf files is that there is only the one programe DLed... the .exe file. If you have a separate .inf file DLed, I'd like to try that if you don't mind sending it my way... please? rreed17@kc.rr.com

I appreciate your info... I'll try that out. Right now, I am setting it up on my home PC just for the sake of testing it... I have a couple other USB HID devices plugged into it. I'll try your suggestions. If this takes care of it, I hope I can overcome this with the carputer since my install will be completely in the dash... don't know how I'm gonna go about unplugging and plugging once its all said and done. The only thing so far on my carputer setup that might be USB HID is one of my touchscreens... but we shall see. Thanks a bunch... and btw... your english is just fine...

Coach
When you run the exe it creates those other folders. Browse your hard drive after running it and you will find the file. I had the same issue with multiple HID devices. Same fix worked for me.

OK, I unplugged ALL of my USB HID's... rebooted... plugged my PowerMate in... and guess what... it installed and initialized just fine... the problem is that when I plugged my USB Optical mouse, it caused some problems... I unplugged the mouse... no good... unplugged the PowerMate... plugged PowerMate back in... no good... unplugged powermate... rebooted... plugged PowerMate in... works great... but if I reinstall my mouse... the Powermate works fine UNTIL I reboot... UGH!
Now, with my carputer, the only other USB HID at this point will be my secondary touchscreen monitor (assuming I get it to work correctly)... but if they won't play well together... this isn't gonna be very convenient. Is there any way to force USB devices to initialize in a certain order? I guess this is a price to pay for a device that was originally meant for Mac...
Anyone out there have multiple USB HID's without ANY problems? If so, what devices do you have attached? Thanks in advance.
Randy

I have the powermate and the touchscreen running with no problems at all. In fact I have 7 other USB devices running with the powermate fine. I have a lilliput, an Earthmate GPS, a keyboard, a sound card, wifi card, a usb hub, and one last thing that escapes me.

Mine works fine with a Lilliput Touchscreen, an IFree USB keybaord and mouse, and the Griffin. Only issue is that every once and a while it shows up as an unrecognized USB device. Its pretty random. Usually after the PC has been powered down without properly shutting down XP. I use hibernate mode instead of shutting the PC down and rarely have the issue.
The quick fix is to run the Device Manager and re-install the griffin drivers. I never have to reboot when I do this. Device Manager can be more easily run by launching devmgmt.msc - just create a shortcut to the file and launch it at any time. It is located at: c:\windows\system32\devmgmt.msc
I put a shortcut to it in my quick launch list so its easy to get to.

I found no way to make the powermate work with any of the computers I have with an Logitech USB MX-500 mouse. Still interested in it working though but I won't give up its functionallity for the powermate though...
