IDE to USB adapter
I don’t know if this has been mentioned before, but while I was browsing
www.cartft.com
I found a really cheap IDE to USB adapter for £13.25.
It has no case which is perfect for custom solutions.

That looks pretty nice. It's got some potential. My only thought... Is it USB1.1 or 2.0... The site only says USB...

question: do I have to pay VAT when having something shipped to the states?

This is from their online support.

You are now chatting with Oliver Aigner
[22:31:01] Oliver: Hi. Do you speak english or sprechen Sie deutsch ?
[22:31:09] Derek: English
[22:31:26] Oliver: how can I help you ?
[22:32:00] Derek: I've got a question about the IDE-to-USB Adapter. Is it USB1.1 or 2.0 & is it for 3.5" or 2.5" drives.
[22:32:14] Oliver: It is USB 2.0 3.5"
[22:32:41] Derek: Do you think I can hookup a 2.5" adapter and run a slim DVD through it?
[22:32:57] Oliver: Yes, this is the main purpose for carpc enthusiasts ;-)
[22:33:23] Derek: right on. Last question: Do I have to pay VAT for shipping to the states?
[22:33:45] Oliver: No, the VAT wil be substraced after the order is made.
[22:34:05] Derek: Okay. How do you think shipping to the states will take?
[22:34:13] Oliver: FedEx : 1 day
[22:34:29] Oliver: I can not really recommend DHL with ~14-30 days.
[22:34:42] Derek: cool. I appreciate your help. Gonna look around the store some more.
[22:34:50] Oliver: cu

Device is USB 2.0. I have one and it's excellent!
Btw, email enquiries made to cartft are answered very quickly.

You can buy the same thing in the states for cheap. I bought a USB2.0 with 2.5" case for $20. Just buy one of those and pull the pcb out.
