Where does ground loop isolator install?

Ok, i know that buzzing noise from inverter problems are the most talked about problems on here, but my question is how exactly does a ground loop isolator install? does it install in the cig lighter, does it install on the battery, does it install on the sound car feed, what? I havent gone to radio shack and looked yet because I have a busy schedule, but wanted to know before I went down there. In my system, the buzz isnt bad, can only hear it when I have my music up loud enough and theres a pause in the music so its something I can live with for a lil while, but probably wanna get it fixed before too long. Any info you can give me would be great.

The ground loop isolator normally installs on the positve wire of the head unit, the device then has another wire which is to be grounded,

You are thinking of a power line noise filter. A GLI is placed between the computer and the headunit on the sound supply line. At least the two I tried went there. I took them back. It did remove the whine but it also killed the sound qualty. It sounded like I was in an auditorium.

A ground loop isolator is a transformer that decouples the audio signal from source and destination. It would be best to install the transformer end closest to the head unit or amplifier, as noise that is picked up between the output of the sound card and the input of the sound system would be removed. If the transformer is closer to the soundcard, noise can be picked up between it and the audio system, and amplified. The Radio Shack model comes with a 1/8" to dual RCA adapter.

so basically ill have to get this device that converts 1/8 to RCA and then get another that converts from RCA female to 1/8 stereo? the reason being for now im using a tape adaptor because i have stock stereo and dont want to change over

Actually, you'll just need to get one 1/8" to RCA adapter to convert back to your tape adapter.
