Its a myth a magnet will not destroy your data.

Newest (August '04) Maximum PC has 11 common computing myths debunked. I have the mag.
It explains that an unsheileded speaker is about 1000 Gauss, 10,000 gauss earth magnets stacked on top of each other would be incapable of corrupting data.

I also agree with vibration. A hard drive is part mechanical and part electronic. If the vibrations don't hurt the mechanical parts first, it will eventually cause cold solder joints in the electronics. Get it off your sub and mount it somewhere else.
