Question Ultimate Hard Drive Mount or bad idea?

ok everyone.... im doing my install today. now i just have the final question about hard drive mounting. the general consensus is to use a hard padding, mount vertically, and mount to something secure in the car.

now i have hard padding, and ive actually built a brass harness for the drive, but my mounting. its a 3.5" drive, and i have one option im considering. shoot me down immediately if im heading in the wrong direction

http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...ct%5Fid=64-029

this is what i used to build my brass harness, which is holding together excellently. now i searched this topic but came up with nothing, and there is a spot on my car where its totally possible to pull this off.

the only thing i found on this topic (yes ive been deliberately vague to this point ) was that u dont have to go this far. and by this far, i mean, i could use that solder weld to secure the brass harness to my cars frame. now im not trying to do something outrageously overprotective in the name of shock protection, but doing this would just seem ideal to me, because where i can weld wuold be the best place to mount the drive in the car anyways.

so if anyone agrees or disagrees, ill be checking back in a little while after the keypad is assembled.

thanks for any advice!

By the famous words of Ben Stiller, "DO IT."

As long as the drive is secure to something that doesn't move in the car, you should have no problems.

As long as the drive doesn't move, you'll be fine. Make sure it's mounted to something sturdy and that there is space between the drive and the surface it's being mounted on using perhaps riser screws.

its going to be in a specially-made brass frame...

on the inside of the frame is the Hard Drive Padding

you may also want to consider heat transfer to be a problem. If there isn't enough circulation around the drive, it will overheat and lock up.

im finishing the frame tonight hopefully.... ill post a picture.

i accomplished little to nothing today because of a few setbacks...

air circulation shouldnt be a problem, the only foam will be on the brass itself...
