sound question m10k vs. audigy?

quick question, i'm considering m10k as my motherboard/cpu and i realized that it has ac97 soundcard built-in to it. and yet, i still see many of you that uses sb audigy nx. what's the reason behind this? i already have a good headunit, so i was planning on using the ip-bus/aux input on the headunit along with line-out on the m10k. does audigy offer something else that's significantly better than line-out of m10k?

btw, i really love my current headunit, so anything that comes from the dvd/mp3/carputer will be outputted into stereo rca jack (red/white). i'm guessing in my case, i virtually have no need for audigy, yes?

That's a really good question. I have onbaord audio but it's only 16bit stereo and I wanted 4.1. So I used a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz I had from a Dell Demension. The m10k comes with a awesome 6 channel onboard audio.

ashzero - it is all a matter of sound preference. I used the onboard Audio first - then moved to the MP3+ and now I use the Audigy2. The sound quality - the bass, treble, etc. are audibly clearer with the Audigy2.

Did you try messing with EQ settings?

I have the M10000 also but bought a terratec for the optical input capability for my XM PCR. Now, i'm looking for a six channel line driver to punch up the voltage. But if XM kills the PCR then I won't need the line driver.

i'm thinking maybe the on-board audio picks up electrical interferences? thus resulting in lower quality sounds? but it's a good thing that i can just always add the audigy later on if it needs to be.

It's also the power output of the two.
The M10000 is low-power (1-1.5w, from what I understand), while the Audigy is more like 3-4w.
That makes a huge difference.

actually, my pioneer premier p1r's AUX input has to be something less than 1v. do i guess it could work out just fine?
