VIA EPIA Pci Riser - One that works
I was just wondering who out there is using a VIA EPIA m/b w/ a PCI Riser card. - Specifically one that faces over the motherboard. From what I read, it seems rare to find one that works facing over the bard , particularly with 2 slots.
I ordered one from logic-supply, it doesnt work- the board wont boot when I attach the card.
Is anyone using a PCI riser - where did you get it ? 1 slot or 2 ? and what kind of card do you have in it ?

riser board
I have used one from (cant remember where but ill put it here later when i find it hehe) and you have to twist it over the other way to get the PCI card to sit over the motherboard. It is a bit of a stretch but it will fit.
M10000 i got boots with it plugged in, but as soon as you plug in the PCI dispaly card i got (FX5200 PCI) it waits 2 secs then shuts down.
If you plug it in and try to boot the power supply simply refuses to start.
*shrug*
Not using it now

YEah, thats the exact same thing that happens to me - I attach the riser, the board will start. As soon as I try to power up with a PCI card in the slot, nothing - PSU wont start.
If I use the ribbon cable (assuming it works) then I have to create a mount for the card.... hummm..

I did some more testing - for those interested, It seems to be specific to higher end video cards. something special about the slot layout.... I dono. I have a feeling that cutting a trace on the board would do it. idono where though. It just seems that something is shorting to ground.
I tired the riser card with all the pci cards I had laying around, Modem, Sound card, ethernet, mpeg dvd decoder, all work fine. even an old ATI Rage card is fine. New Radeon card- fails. one of the resistors or caps on the riser must be shorting something the MB doesnt like.

Or maybe it is just drawing too much power. Is it just the Radeon? How about Nvidia?

Yeah it might be insufficient power, or the signal's getting garbled due to the extra noise..

Great news - Nope, it was ****ty design of the other risers
I ordered a new riser from mycableshop, part number PCITX4-7-5A. The board is verry clean. The number one reason I think it works perfectly - all the traces go straight through its point to pint, no jumpers, no cap's or resistors. Everything works great. PRoblem solved, (and just moments before NOPI) now I can finish my case.

Well, my Logic Supply riser worked fine with my old ATI VGA card. But I got a new Radeon 7k today (sounds familiar?) and the PSU won't start with the thing plugged in! Argghhh! At least it was cheap. I wish the "working" one was.
