Post 3.3v regulator

Hey I don't know if anyone has tried this before but this might be an option for those of you that are using atx boards. National semiconductor makes a regulator (the LM2825) its a one chip regulator no external components required. You could power it off of your 5v or 12v line and it will give you a regulated 3.3v output at a max current of 1A. Does the 3.3v line on an atx board draw more current than that? you could also throw a couple in parralel to get more current....

P.S. they are available as free samples fro www.national.com

I know there is a maxim circuit you can build as well to get the 3.3volt lead. Wonder if 1A would be enough to do the job with this?

I don't know. Has anyone measured the current being drawn on their 3.3v line? I myself don't have an atx so I can't measure it. I just thoughgt I'd toss the info out there to see if it would be at all helpful to anybody.

I don't have one with me right now, but most power supplies have all of the max currents listed on a sticker on the box. Someone with an atx handy needs to check the sticker.
