7" screen just 2 small
Well finally got my 7" VGA touchscreen (lilliput). How do all you guys manage to read any of the text on windows. I'm thinking my eye sight can't be that bad can it.
The touchscreen overlay doesn't help (doesn't excatly give a crystal clear look) but all the fonts are just too small for me to read while sitting back in my seat. I've got XP Pro, adjusted the font size for the desktop and start menu items and this helps slightly but with everything else its just too small to use sensibly.
I'm looking into GPS software now and have currently got mappoint going and its just the same for this.. Can hardly read any text and if I increase the font size on the map it becomes too big for the roads.
Its seems to me that incar pc seems to be limited to using a purposely built software like Media Engine which is a shame. Just hoping that I can find a GPS solution to be able to use with ease on my 7" screen.
How does everyone else find controlling Windows on a 7" sorta size screen... I haven't got room for a 14" in my dashboard you see.

I'm assuming your Lilliput is hooked up thru your VGA and not the RCA.
I have the DPI set to 120 and that makes everything more legible. I can read the desktop files clearly. I use Routis and this also seemed to help with reading the street names in Routis as well, which I was having a difficult time at the default 96DPI.
Also, what is your resolution set at?

I have the 7" lilliput in the dash currently running at 800x600. I use MediaCar as the front end, and this is fine.
However the normal windows screens and text are pretty small, but readable, especially since I have moved away from a TV screen.
It's kinda of difficult to use the touch with the windows side, but I will be moving to 800 x 480 when I put the new PC so hopefully the windows text will be more readable and TS friendly.

Im planning of a Carputer project.
But im worried about the tft touchscreen im planning to buy.
Lilliput 7" VGA Touchscreen
or
Lilliput 8" VGA Touch Screen TFT LCD Display
The 7 tft has widescreen that makes a better picture and have better resulution.
But the 8 tft seams to become mouch better look and bigger screen size of course.
The different between 7 ftf and a 10.4 is HUGE. so why not a 8 tft =)
What do you people think of my thoughts?

Yep, I had a RCA screen setup before and that was hopeless as they are but this VGA setup is just too small.
I tried setting the DPI to 120 and it helped slightly but still not easy to read.. I can't keep it that setting anyway as Media Engine complains about it when loading.

Since this is an LCD, did you try enabling ClearType in under 'effects' in the display appearance options? It would make the font look much cleaner, and easier on the eyes. I have no problems at all with my 7" Xenarc TSV, and I still have the original protective plastic on the LCD.

as carpcnoobie asked, what's yoru resolution set at? If it's 1600x1200, that'll make it hard as hell to read.
Try 800x600 or something..

Depending on what you are trying to do, you could use the built in Windows magnifier to aid in viewing small stuff on the screen.
Also, you said you can't fit a 14" screen in your dash - you could try something smaller like a 10.4 inch screen.
You can find them pretty cheap, and they work better for working in windows.
check ebay, there are some deals out there

I'll agree with you on the 7 inch screen - they are decent at running video and playing music, but not the best for GPS or working in windows straight up.

Well... I can't fit any bigger than a 7" at the moment, unless I completely hack away my dashboard which i'm not wanting to do.

Hey guys.. take a look at this one!
8" TFT LCD monitor with TV tuner" sounds really good in my ears.
But i guess you connect the computer along this connection...
-> 2 x Video in (two channels)
If so this mght me a very good option.
What do you think?

Take a look at what?
If I only have the info you provided, I'd say no. Composite will nog give you a good image. You need vga to get good readable text.
@corsamel: just do not use windows front-end on it! Seriously, all the carpc front-ends are made, just because you wouldn't have to use explorer and the likes.

No vga input and bad resolution. I wouldn't use it for anything more than watching tv...
