Need help with IBM slim line DVD adapter

Guys I need some help. I tried searching but I couldn't find what I needed.

I picked up a couple of IBM P/N: 92P6579 Marketing Part Number: 73P3270 DVD drives. They are made by Panasonic and have a different atapi plug on the back then what all the adapters I have seen and have bought.

I read a post a few minute ago about unscrewing the plastic "custom adapter" fromt eh back and revealing a regular plug. This doesn't seen to be the case. It is screwed and soldered on. Plus if I do manage to remove it, the connections will still not line up. Does anyone know what I have to use?

I will include the pictures too.

Here is a pic of a drive that will fit that adapter.

When I pulled my old ibm laptop apart, to scrounge the lcd, hard drive, and cdrom, i found that the adapter I had bought to use the hard drive wouldn't fit. Mine had the adapter you mentioned, so i was very easilly able to hook the hard drive up, once I got the courage to unscrew what I thought was the hard drive, but was really just a plastic case. Now, here's the part that might interest you: I still have that adapter, and it looks (I say looks 'cause I'm not sure from the pics) like that adapter might fit into the the top drive and convert it into a normal connection. If you could take more pics I might be able to tell further, if it looks like it might work, I'll tell you, and if your in the US I'll mail the adapter to you. The only problem with this approach, even if it does work, is that you will will have a female output where you need a male, but that's a step in the right direction.

I don't really know what other pics I could take. That pic shows exactly what the plug looks like. It is an IBM Ultrabay drive. There were a few posts I found about them with no responces.

So from what I have been finding out I may be SOL. It looks like I may be putting them on Ebay. Damn it, just when I thought I pretty much everything I needed.

I just found this post and I have the same problem? Did anyone end up helping him? Can someone look at that picture and understand why it looks like that? Does anyone have an IBM DVD rom installed into their carputer?

The reason folks say take it apart and you should find a standard adapter is because the drives are usually made by a different company...and are sold to all the manufacturers...in this case Panasonic.

These companies encase the laptop drives in a shell that fits their laptop.

So can we see the label of the drive where it says it is a pansonic?

My micron drive also had a non standard plug, but when I removed the shell there was another plug and an adapter to connect the two.
