Valentine One Solution!
How many of you out there have a Valentine One? We need a serial port interface, and we need help! It would be great if FrodoPlayer would pause if a certain band of radar was at a >(some value) intensity. What do you guys think?

Well, I don't have a V1, but I think I know how we could make it work. You know how it uses regular modem wires to communicate between the remote display and the main unit? If we were to grab that info, then we could maybe get something working

I did some more searching...and finally found the thread that talks about this that I had read before...

This product is very similar to what I want.. http://www.jaricdesign.com/products.htm
It would be awesome if the Radar would only be reported if it was out of the norm for your longitude/latitude. The number of sources and strength of each radar signal could be monitored for every location you would ever drive.

See.... the V1 DOES use phone cables to communicate. Our job is to intercept them, reverse engeneer them, and make a parser for them.

i actually came across the same thing today. I have a V1 as well. I think it would be awesome if we could figure out what each of those wires from the telephone do. Then we could probably write up a program to retrieve long/lat when the intensity passes a certain threshold. This would also allow us to permanently install our detectors and use the computer as a remote display.

Exactly what I was thinking. Here's how to test: hook up the remote display cable to your modem and open up hyperterminal and watch the communication. The thing is, most people have EPIA boards, and those have only 1 PCI slot, which would have to be used for a modem.

I did make a callerid program using the modem, but I don't have a V1, and don't plan on getting one for a while.

Don't invest any time trying to use a modem just because it uses a phone cable. Your best bet would be a parallel port interface.

Easier to test it with a modem.

No it's not going to be. You're headed down a dead end.

Guys, trust us, the fact that it uses an RJ-11 plug means NOTHING and trying to use to the modem is just plain not going to work.

Yes, I know for sure.
1. I am a programmer.
2. I make electronic circuits.
3. I have built modem circuits for my projects from the ground up.
4. I have reverse engineered devices before.
5. I know for sure.

Ok.
1) me too...
I've build a callerid app for LCDC and trillian at the same time using just the Com port.
