I was wondering if someone can post some pictures of the connectors on their XM Direct box or if you know if the XM commander box will with with the home brew cables on here to connect to a pc. I am asking because I have a commander unit currently and would prefer just to use that box rather than throw another $50 at the setup. One of the differences it seems is the power source. My commander unit has its own power supply that runs to acc etc. so I am wondering if I can just ignore that part of the cable or if the direct box has that power connecter as well. Any help anyone can provide would be appreciated.
My unit is burried under my dash and is a good hour or more to get to so I did a google search and came across this:
Starting at the bottom going up there is the XM Serial connector, line out for fm modulator, rca line out, and power
So do I just omit the power wires from the cable and I'm set? or do I still need to connect them? I would imagine no since it has an external power source but just want to double check.
You have to use the power connectors. As far as I know The XM commander is the XMDirect with a control unit. So just disconnect the control unit and use the homebuilt cable in it's place.
I would think you don't need to use it. He said the commander is already powered.
The cable comes with a power cord and cig.plug on the end, it plugs into the 9 pin serial connector. You just don't need to use it. You won't need to cut or modify anything.
Ask HybridMike to be sure.
correct, the commander has its own power plug, finally found some xm direct pictures on xm411.com and that doesn't have a power plug so I think its safe to assume that my external power adaptor will do the job and I dont need to use the one built into the cable.
