Don't buy any cheap hubs. I bought one from Frys Elect. about 2 years ago and it wouldn't even work with my Intel machine! I eneded up slavaging that USB cable, now I have a XBOX PC Controller

m10k?????

i have a belkin 4 port hub (one with transparent casing) that works very well with or without external power. Just got a neat little USB2 hub that has 2 inputs and a switch to change between them very useful when you have 2 pcs or just want to diconnect your USB devices quickly and it is only a little bit bigger than a zippo lighter (is 4 port with dual inputs)

I'm using a few USB 2.0 hubs on my M10K, why in blazes would you purposely go for a 1.1 hub? 2.0 mini hubs have really come down in price.

At the front of the car it'll be touch, IR, and game port stalk control. since carputer for me is about keeping cost down b4 it gets silly and all of these devices are of the 1.1 ilk I thought it wouldn't be too much to expect a 1.1 hub to work. the 2.0 hubs are a good 20 euro dearer. I bought a belkin mini 4 port 1.1 and it keeps intermitantly crashing after resume. i'm thinking I thought USB was supposed to be NEW quick and easy standard. I am blown away by how flakey the whole thing seems to be. At this point if there is anyone with a via m10000 (m10k) that works perfectly with there hub and they are using the original bios program prey tell what is your hub (1.1 or 2.0 it dosn't matter). Also lets do each other a favour and start naming peripherals that are incompatible. so my 10 pence worth...

m10k w/ belkin mini 4 port 1.1USB (from PC World): not a good combo.

Also FP users might stay clear of Hauppage USB2 WINTV/FM unless you can get a radiator pluggin written, because to date there are none.

I have 2x2.0 unpowered hubs on my m10k, no problems. One is a noname, the other is Belkin or Kensington laptop hub, I think.

From my experiences, the usb hub must be powered to run anything close to the amount of ports it has. If it is unpowered, i bet that is where your problems are steming from.

but a powered hub at that end of the car. that would be a serious conplication. i was gonna use one of these 5m usb repeaters to span the length of the car. i iked usb for the power line spec it included and that external adapteres weren't required... sheesh

I'd suggest running the touchscreen on it's own seperate USB lead to the pc unit via an extension and then run any other peripherals like GPS unit, etc etc. from the hub.

I had problems with a mini USB2 hub from Simply Computers (UK) as the touchscreen kept flaking out when connected up with other devices on the same hub (whether powered or not) - but having removed that to it's own line the system now works very reliably and no problems from the hub whether powered or not (I have a webcam, mini keyboard and a GPS receiver hooked up through the hub).

Cheers,

Andy
