PROJECT ST34LTH : Project Car Purchased w/PICS

Let me introduce myself. My name is Adam and my projects name is ST34LTH. I have been lurking around here for a while now and asking questions on some occasions and have learned a great deal from you guys. So, before I say anything else, I want to thank you guys. Now, as for my project, the name ST34LTH comes from the real word, "stealth" but mixes it up with some l33t h4x0r speak

Dictionary.com defines "stealth" as the following :

------------------
stealth
n.

1. The act of moving, proceeding, or acting in a covert way.
2. The quality or characteristic of being furtive or covert.

adj.

1. Not disclosing one's true ideology, affiliations, or positions: a stealth candidate.
2. Having or providing the ability to prevent detection by radar: a stealth bomber; stealth technology.

------------------

So, for the past couple weeks I have been compiling a requirements document for what my car will do and what constraints there are. I come from a project management and development background so I know this is will be the blueprint for the finished install. The document itself is very long so I wont bore you with all of it but I will give you a taste of my constraints below. With all of the constraints I had, I immediatley new that I would have the same amount of constraints for the car I was to choose since this was going to be a dedicated daily driver/project vehicle. I knew I wanted something big, something comfortable, something with a lot of room and something with a whole lot of features right from the factory. It also HAD to be black on black (stealth bombers arent blue or red ) This past weekend I found that car and picked it up from Texas. It is a Mercedes S500 and has every bell and whistle known to man and in my belief is a perfect car to start with.

My design constraints are as follows :

1. Must retain OEM look - no radio shack looking switches anywhere
2. Switches must be matched to Merc color and sizes and tactile feel
3. Use as many of the original buttons as possible
4. Color scheme must be maintained on all components and all interfaces
5. Boot time must be as fast as possible
6. Must not use a miraid of applications - all functions should come under a custom written interface
7. Audio quality must be the best possible
8. Components must be able to handle rough environment and bumpy ride with a considerable amount of bass
9. All connections will be of the highest quality materials
10. All wires will be techflexed yellow, heat shrunk and labeled to identify them from the factory wiring
11. Most of all, attention to detail will be at its highest throughout the project
12. Should integrate with as many factory busses as possible and not just piggyback more electronics
13. All electronics that are piggybacked will be done so in paralell with their original interface. All interfaces should NOT modify the original but instead tap into lines on the connector. This will be done using a stock male and female connector.

Below are some pictures of my baby (pardon the weather) :

Good Luck, it'll be great to hear from you in a few years when you finish.

Thank you. The car will be done in stages which I will setup soon but I doubt highly this will take more than a year. I work in a hardware engineering company and many of the people on my "team" are EE's so they are more than qualified.

It's a shame that after all your project management bull***** you couldn't take a single decent picture.

That statement is the mark of a complete *******.
1) Project management isn't bull****. You've obviously never been in charge of a large-scale engineering project.
2) In any project management curriculum, I've never seen a photography requirement.

ST34LTH: I wish you well on your project. You're aiming for the same thing that most of us are: A clean OEM look, fast boot time, good audio quality, etc.
Keep us posted.

I like the black on black idea.

Can't think why?

Oh yeah my car is black, with black leather. (and getting darker)

Engram : Im not really sure what you are trying to say. Are you saying that project management or that my pictures suck. I will be the first person to say that the pictures I took are horrible. If you read the post however, I did mention it was horrible weather outside. In fact these pictures were taken after my 21+ hour drive back from TX which I accomplished in only one sitting. So, pardon the bad pictures. I will be sure to post some more asap.

DarquePervert : I appreciate your post and its always good that someone understands the project management process. It may be a lot of work but it pays off in the end. Also, it really is good to see that most everyone on here is looking for the same things. Its really fantastic to be in such a nice community where everybody seems to be heading in the same direction. =)

no1knows : I was wondering if somebody was going to crack on that. Yeah, the dictionary definition was only on there to clarify the full meaning of the word. I know we have a lot of international members on this board so I wanted to make sure everyone saw where I was going with it. I also learned a little myself once I pulled up the definition.

Enforcer : I love black on black cars. I am thinking about switching out the factory wood with just piano black panels and doing some other things to darken the interior a little more. I saw your signature but I didnt see what you drove. What is your 'black on black' sweetheart.

edit : I just saw your profile and it looks like you have a bimmer. I sold my M3 not to long ago and I loved the car. Have you looked into any sort of i-bus integration?

Thanks for all the comments guys. I have tough skin and an open mind so feel free to say what you think. I promise I wont take offense

Alright, you asked for it. Here are some more pics of the car including the interior this time. These are pictures of when it was purchased. I need to get sometime to take some real artsy shot. I also threw in a pic of my M3 that I just sold for fun =)

Some pics of the M before I sold it
