usb extensions and speed?

i have a bunch of those little 2 ft or so usb extension cables that come with those usb drives and other usb devices.

My problem is that the ide to usb drive adapter only has a 6 inch length for the usb. Will using several of those little usb extension cables reduce speeds over a 4 or 5 foot distance to where my usb hub is?

btw its usb2 not usb1.1

I've successfully run 2 cables connected together = ~8ft without a problem (no dataloss, full speed). My USB drive was USB2. YMMV.

No problems should appear under 5m. If you want more than 5m, you can get an acvtive USB extension wire. But, still, keep it clean, and run a single wire, not 30...

Hey guys im new here... ive been reading everything and just lerkign around. I to had this question about USB length. and per http://www.usb.org/faq/ans5/

Q1: How long of a cable can I use to connect my device?
A1: In practice, the USB specification limits the length of a cable between full speed devices to 5 meters (a little under 16 feet 5 inches). For a low speed device the limit is 3 meters (9 feet 10 inches).

so a HD and CD it would be a high speed. you can go 16 feet =)

wo0t! my first post was a constructive one
