ok iv been useing my carcomputer since summer. been working grate.
80gig maxtor harddrive.
the other day it got down to -5f at night. and when i was going to work. i started my car 5 min early. and when i got in the car the Bios seed "no system disk"
i left the system on well i drove... after another 5 min i tryed rebooting.. agen "no system disk"
then after 10 min it booted fine.
so frost on the harddrive platters? now how can i pervent this agen.
This is due to the drive bearings being cold and not allowing the platter to spin to RPM
If you look at the specs for the drive I think you will find it uses fluid dynamic bearings (FDB) They do not handle the cold as well. The lower RPM means the drive heads do not read correctly, thus not boot.
