wireless internet problem.

my problem is that i just got a wireless router, it is the WRT54GS wireless g speed booster one. i can connect to the wireless internet from my house computer but for some reason it will not let me connnect from the carputer. if you have any ideas please help me. i can connect to my freinds when im at his house but it wont aquire the network settings from my house.

more information is needed bud, wifi cards, os's, distances,....signal strengths

im running xp pro and the distance outside is not very far at all. i park in the garage and the router is right above that. the signal strength that i get in my room is fair but thats with a wireless card that has a broken antenna.

Do you have the home pc Firewalled?
If so, try disabling it.

Sounds like he can't connect to the AP at all, never mind the home PC. Have you tried the USB NIC inside to make sure it works? Can you improve line of sight by moving the AP to a window maybe, relocate the USB NIC?

When you test indoors are you connecting using B or G? Are both enabled?

Is the AP broadcasting its SSID or did you enter it indoors?

So many fiddly bits can go wrong with wireless it's a pain in the rear.

also, since you can connect to your friends "computer" at your friends house maybe you have possibly you are in infrastructure mode and not AP mode. If its not a signal issue, then it could be any # of things. Are you running the same channel? standard in the states is channel 6 but you can change this. And do you have wep possibly enabled?
