PCI or USB notebook PC card adapter exist?

I've been looking on and off for several months for a notebook PC card adapter. I basically looking for an PC card adapter so I can stick wi-fi/CDMA cards into for a desktop or in like an external bay drive.

why do i want this? my gf's work has provided her a Verizon Wireless CDMA notebook PC card with unlimited wireless access. she cannot afford to pay Comcast broadband their $45/month for access, and her work provided her this card for her work laptop, but she would also like to use it in her desktop. I saw such an adapter a LONG time ago, but can't find it.

I also know some PCI cards are basically notebook PC cards in an adapter, but I have no knowlege of which ones will let you pull this off.

any help would be appreciated:-)

If you are looking for a simple PCMCIA to PCI adapter, you could use

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=C250-3746

this was just a quick Google find, but you may find a better price somewhere else.

Check the specs on the PC card and the adapter you are thinking about getting. All adapters are not the same. If your PC card is a CardBus/32 bit device then make sure your adapter is the same. Go with a 32 bit one as it will work with 16 bit cards as well. That Newegg one should be fine though.

I hope I am wrong, but, I read here somewhere that wireless cards do not work reliably in PCI adapters, I sure hope it is not the case since I am looking too for one of those cards for NET on the go.

I am using one in a home PC and it works just fine. Not sure how well it would work in a car but I'm sure that's just because of the limited range of the internal antenna. If you have a card with an external connector then there should be no problem at all.

Good to know, I'll call Verizon tomorrow for details, also Sprint has it, but I think Verizon has better coverage.

thank you everyone! :-) my gf will definitely be happy that she doesn't have to pay for DSL or dial up now. heh.

here is the card on verizon wireless:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/s...edPhoneId=1517
and from the manufacturer:
http://www.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs/s...2526&langId=-1
I am definitely sticking with a 32 bit one. i don't need the headaches of a 16 bit card.

the verizon card *does* have a little jack where an antenna could connect. I was able to find that you can hook an external antenna into the card, and boost its signal 1-2 bars:
