I've got a 01 BMW, and I've got a new Laptop on the way...so naturally, after reading this site for a good few months now, I want to make a carputer (but using my laptop instead of a dedicated/integrated carputer). In addition, I'm going to upgrade my terrible OEM sound system.

Anyways, I saw the I-bus adaptor that someone is selling. I see that it takes a serial connection to the PC. The problem is, I just relized that my laptop doesn't have a serial port!!! I have found a serial to USB cable at this website: http://www.cableclub.com/default.php?cPath=377

My question to the brains out there...will this work. I don't really know how the i-bus works (software wise). But I do understand that Serial and USB are two completely different things, so I'm assuming that this won't work. But it can't hurt to ask/try.
