1.3ghz Celeron M laptop motherboard - $30.00 USD

hey guys, on geeks.com, they have a 1.3ghz celeron m gateway laptop motherboard(cpu is included) for 30USD. i assume that all it needs is a power adapter, and a hard drive caddy. also a stick of sodimm, but the power adapter and the hard drive caddy adapter will be hard to locate. does any have any ideas from which gateway laptop this motherboard come from?

well the power might come from the connector on the bottom right corner of the picture, if not there is probably a daughter-card with the connector on it

Don't forget a heatsink.

Did you notice it has no sound? Most likely there is a daughter card for sound, don't know how it's going to respond to not having this card hooked up. Also, how will it react to not having the LCD connected...

It would be interesting to see how this works out for you, if you can get it running it might be a good cheap option for many.

This SX05 comes with an Intel Celeron M 1.3 GHz processor and heat sink already installed!

I guess they just photographed without a heatsink to give you a better view of the board.

Some more info in a post from Linux-Hacker.net:

This appears to be from a Gateway 200ARC - there is a user manual, specifications on Gateway site. The processor is a "centrino" type celeron m (I believe a 320), it uses cheap PC2100 DDR-SODIMMs.

BUT - Geeks description does't list power required - wonder why not? Because a DC/DC converter board is missing that takes in 19V DC and then feeds into the motherboard through a >20 pin connector. If you search ebay for 200ARC DC you'll find a listing for the missing board.

FYI, even though it's a 'Centrino' Processor, it won't have wireless, since it doesn't include the Intel 802.11 card.

thanks for the info tom61, i would definately like to learn more about this board, do you have the original link to the linux hacker.net post?

like other laptop mb, this one has a vga output. it also has firewire and usb port. sound card could be added with a usb sound card. the hardest is getting power in and the hard drive connect to it, and if the hard drive and power connected, it would be wonderful.

btw it does have a heatsink, but no fan.

It's on the angled photo. The 2 curved copper bits coming from the CPU are heatpipes, leading to a small radiator.

Not really an 'orginal' post, it's posted at the tail end of a long thread about a different board (one designed for desktop components): http://www.linux-hacker.net/cgi-bin/...age=0&Session=

Pretty much all useful info from that post about this board is summed up in that one quoted post.
