Docking Port For Entire System

Figured I post some pics of my new creation. With this docking port I have, VGA, Serial, 2 external USB, 2 internal USB. I just got done with some testing and everything works!

I still have to add some things like power, 12V out and 5V out, not a big deal got the hard part done. Also I might be running the ground through it, but need to test it to make sure I don't get any soundfeedback or anything, otherwise its seperate.

This will make it so I can take it out with one plug and don't have to worry about connecting everything. I'm also thinking about making another male type one to plug it in the house.

In the pics you can see in the background my other creation I'm working on, a pod for my 8" lilliput.

I was working on my system last night and was considering a one-ina-all plug for all my things, so I could just pack up my carputer and take it out.

What kind of plug is that?

nice work, by the way, I can't wait to see it tested.

I was thinking a master connector for data etc... and a connector for power etc...

My only concern will be the XM antenna. I'm not sure about cutting that apart. So I may just make another connection for that (if possible).

Hey Rundell, good job by you. I could really use something like this. Exactly how hard was it to make?

Its not hard, just need the right tools and a little bit of time. Since I didn't have a crimper I had to crimp it by hand using needle nose pliers. Also tried very hard not to make a mistake because if I did I may have to end up doing everything on a particular cable all over again because I want everything the same length. If you had the crimper it would be very fast. I probably worked on it for 3-4 hours, just took my time since I didn't want to cross anything and triple checked every connection I made.

I just remember also that I traced everything and only used the pins on the cable I need. Like for VGA only 7 pins are used by my screen. and Serial was something like 6 pins. So that cut down the work a little bit.

Sorry to dig this up, but I am thinking of making a quick release for my EEE PC.

I want something like a laptop docking station, I have 1 x DC and 2 x USB connections that I want to disconnect quickly.

Are there any quick connect/disconnect ports out there that can handle this?

Something look like this

Unfortunately, the EeePCs don't come with a dock connector, so we have to cobble something up for them to slip into. I plan on building a single plate that will house the power and USB connections for an EeePC 901; they're on the right side of the unit. If this works as I hope it will, they'll all go into the EeePC at the same time, so it's pretty much like there's a single connection to be made.

Are you worried about shielding at all with the video signal?
